{"id":47316,"date":"2025-05-07T11:25:16","date_gmt":"2025-05-07T05:55:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=47316"},"modified":"2025-05-29T11:28:56","modified_gmt":"2025-05-29T05:58:56","slug":"human-development-report-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/human-development-report-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"Human Development Report 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Human Development Report 2025 Latest News<\/h2>\n<p>India ranked 130th on the Human Development Index, out of 193 countries and territories, according to the 2025 Human Development Report (HDR) released recently.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: inherit; font-size: 35px; font-style: inherit;\">About Human Development Report<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It is an\u00a0<strong>annual publication by<\/strong>\u00a0the\u00a0<strong>United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)<\/strong>\u00a0that evaluates and<strong>\u00a0compares countries based on human development\u00a0<\/strong>rather than just economic growth.<\/li>\n<li>It analyses development progress across a range of indicators known as the\u00a0<strong>Human Development Index (HDI)<\/strong>, which encompasses achievements in\u00a0<strong>health and education,along with levels of income.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Highlights of HDR 2025:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The\u00a0<strong>2025 HDR, titled \u201cA Matter of Choice: People and Possibilities in the Age of AI\u201d,\u00a0<\/strong>highlights the critical role of artificial intelligence in shaping the next chapter of human development.<\/li>\n<li>The study revealed\u00a0<strong>stalled progress on the HDI in all regions across the world<\/strong>\u00a0and warned that increasing trade tensions, a worsening debt crisis, and the rise of jobless industrialisation risked making the situation worse.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Iceland<\/strong>, with an HDI value of 0.972, ranked at the<strong>\u00a0top of the Index, followed by Norway and Switzerland.South Sudan<\/strong>\u00a0was\u00a0<strong>at the bottom at 193\u00a0<\/strong>with 0.388.<\/li>\n<li>I<strong>ndia is ranked 130th\u00a0<\/strong>on the Human Development Index (HDI), out of 193 countries and territories.<\/li>\n<li><strong>India improved its HDI value from 0.676 in 2022 to 0.685 in 2023,<\/strong>\u00a0with the country\u00a0<strong>remaining in the medium human development category<\/strong>, although moving closer to the threshold for high human development (HDI \u2265 0.700).\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It also noted that India\u2019s HDI value has increased by over 53 percent since 1990, growing faster than both the global and South Asian averages.<\/li>\n<li>Among India\u2019s neighbours,<strong>\u00a0China (75th), Sri Lanka (78th), and Bhutan (127th)<\/strong>\u00a0are ranked above India, while\u00a0<strong>Bangladesh (130th)<\/strong>\u00a0is ranked at par.\u00a0<strong>Nepal (145th), Myanmar (149th), and Pakistan (168th)<\/strong>\u00a0are ranked below India.<\/li>\n<li>I<strong>ndia\u2019s life expectancy\u00a0<\/strong>also\u00a0<strong>rose to 72 years\u00a0<\/strong>in 2023 from 67.7 in 2022, while\u00a0<strong>expected schooling years increased to 13\u00a0<\/strong>from 12.6, with\u00a0<strong>average schooling years increasing to 6.9\u00a0<\/strong>from 6.57.
