Island<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the <\/span><b>largest and southernmost island<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the <\/span><b>Nicobar group<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <\/span><b>separated from the Andaman Islands<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by the<\/span><b> Ten Degree Channel.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Geographically, the island is <\/span><b>closer to Sumatra, Indonesia, than to mainland India,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> emphasizing its remote and strategic location.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its <\/span><b>coastline <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">features over 100 kilometers of <\/span><b>untouched beaches,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> renowned for their <\/span><b>stunning coral reefs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and<\/span><b> crystal-clear waters.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is also home to <\/span><b>Indira Point, India\u2019s southernmost point<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, located less than 150 km from Indonesia.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Mount Thullier,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which is about 2,105 ft high, is the <\/span><b>highest peak.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Galathea, Alexandra, and Dagmar <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are the major <\/span><b>rivers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It remains<\/span><b> sparsely populated, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with <\/span><b>dense tropical rainforests<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> covering more than <\/span><b>85% of its area.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><b> major tribes i<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">n Great Nicobar Island are the <\/span><b>Shompens and the Nicobarese.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is home to the <\/span><b>Great Nicobar Biosphere Reserve, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a<\/span><b> UNESCO-designated site.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Flora and Fauna:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It houses 650 species of<\/span><b> angiosperms, ferns, gymnosperms<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, bryophytes, and lichens, among others.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The tract is rich in plant diversity and fosters a number of <\/span><b>rare and endemic <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">species, including <\/span><b>Cyathea albosetacea (tree fern)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>Phalaenopsis speciosa (orchid).<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To date, 11 species of mammals, 32 species of birds, 7 species of reptiles, and 4 species of amphibians have been found to be endemic.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Of these, the well-known<\/span><b> Crab-eating Macaque, Nicobar Tree Shrew, Dugong,<\/b> <b>Nicobar Megapode, Serpent Eagle<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, saltwater crocodile, marine turtles and
