Vairamuthu has been selected for the Jnanpith Award for the year 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Jnanpith Award<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the <\/span><b>highest literary honour of India<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, given to writers who have excelled in literature in different Indian languages.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was instituted in 1961.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Award:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The prize carries a cash prize of <\/span><b>Rs 11 lakh<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a <\/span><b>bronze statuette of Vagdevi<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Goddess Saraswati), and a <\/span><b>citation.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is sponsored by the cultural organization Bharatiya Jnanpith.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>first recipient<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the award <\/span><b>was Malayalam poet G. Sankara Kurup,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> who received the award in 1965 for his collection of poems Odakkuzhal.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Eligibility and Rules<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is given <\/span><b>every year <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to an author for his\/her outstanding <\/span><b>contribution towards Indian literature through creative writing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in any of the <\/span><b>Indian languages<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> mentioned in <\/span><b><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/8th-schedule-of-indian-constitution\/\" target=\"_blank\">Schedule VIII<\/a> of the Indian Constitution and English.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Only those <\/span><b>creative writers who are alive<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and are Indian citizens, can be proposed for the Award.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A language which receives the award in a particular year is not eligible for consideration for the <\/span><b>next two years.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A writer who receives the Award once will not be considered again.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Award may not be given in a particular year if the Jnanpith Award Selection Board feels that there is no suitable name which comes up to the expected standard of the Award.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/national\/tamil-nadu\/vairamuthu-wins-jnanpith-award-third-tamil-writer-to-receive-honour\/article70743018.ece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">TH<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jnanpith Award is the highest literary honour of India, given to writers who have excelled in literature in different Indian languages.
