{"id":4836,"date":"2023-01-16T11:51:04","date_gmt":"2023-01-16T06:21:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=4836"},"modified":"2025-03-27T02:43:15","modified_gmt":"2025-03-26T21:13:15","slug":"what-is-national-digital-university-ndu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-is-national-digital-university-ndu\/","title":{"rendered":"What is National Digital University (NDU)?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>Why in News:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The UGC Chairman recently revealed the framework of India\u2019s first-ever National Digital University (NDU) as envisioned under the National Education Policy, 2020.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>About National Digital University (NDU):<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>What is it?<\/strong> The Central Government in its Budget 2022-23 announced the establishment of a digital university that provides access to students for world-class quality universal education with personalized learning experiences at their doorsteps.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Structure of NDU:<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The institution will function under a <strong>hub-and-spoke model<\/strong>, which is where one product is delivered to various stakeholders from a central location.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>digital content for various courses will be hosted<\/strong> on the Study Webs of Active-Learning for Young Aspiring Minds <strong>(SWAYAM) platform<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>IT and administrative services will be provided through<\/strong> the government&#8217;s <strong>Samarth portal.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Facilities offered:<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The university will offer <strong>exclusively online courses <\/strong>from its partner institutes, which could be <strong>both private and public universities<\/strong>, so far as they follow the NDU\u2019s model.<\/li>\n<li>The students <strong>can opt for certificate, diploma, or degree courses.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>NDU will <strong>allow students to pursue multiple courses at a time<\/strong> from the various partner institutes of NDU.<\/li>\n<li>Students will be <strong>able to register for programmes of individual universities<\/strong> through this Digital University.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>NDU <strong>aims to give students the liberty to design their own courses.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>How are academic credits granted?<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Students will have the<strong> option of earning credits from multiple institutions <\/strong>and will <strong>have multiple exit points throughout the course.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Courses will hold a certain number of credits, and students will be eligible for a degree from a particular institute when they have accumulated 50% of the credits of a programme from the institute concerned.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>In case the student earns credits from multiple institutions and crosses the credit threshold, the degree awarded will be by NDU.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1)\u00a0What is SWAYAM platform?<\/h3>\n<p>Swayam is a platform that facilitates hosting of all the courses, taught in classrooms from Class 9 till post-graduation to be accessed by anyone, anywhere at any time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>So<\/strong><strong>urce:<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/pib.gov.in\/PressReleseDetailm.aspx?PRID=1891121\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><u>Text of opening remarks of Union Minister of Education and Minister of Skill Development &amp;
