diagnostic services, finds the latest report by the National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS).<\/p>\n<h2>About National Academy of Medical Sciences\u00a0<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a unique institution functioning as an\u00a0<strong>apex body\u00a0<\/strong>with the objective to foster and\u00a0<strong>utilize academic excellence\u00a0<\/strong>as its resource<strong>\u00a0to meet medical and social goals.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It was\u00a0<strong>registered\u00a0<\/strong>as the &#8216;Indian Academy of Medical Sciences&#8217; on 21st April, 1961,\u00a0<strong>under Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It was renamed NAMS on 16th November, 1976.<\/li>\n<li>The academy has been\u00a0<strong>recognised by the Government of\u00a0<\/strong>India as a\u00a0<strong>nodal agency for continuing education for medical and allied health professionals.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It also<strong>\u00a0advises the Government<\/strong>\u00a0of India in matters of\u00a0<strong>National Health Policy and Planning.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>NAMS encourages and\u00a0<strong>sponsors nationwide Continuing Medical Education (CME) programmes, symposia, workshops,<\/strong>\u00a0etc.<\/li>\n<li>It has made significant efforts to improve the reach of CME programmes by\u00a0<strong>establishing tele-linkages between medical colleges,<\/strong>\u00a0and it is\u00a0<strong>also connected with the National Knowledge Network.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The academy serves as a very important tool for dissemination of recent medical advances\u00a0<strong>via journals, monographs,\u00a0<\/strong>etc.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>NAMS also\u00a0<strong>bestows prestigious fellowships and awards upon\u00a0<\/strong>eminent\u00a0<strong>biomedical scientists\u00a0<\/strong>in recognition of their outstanding contributions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>NAMS Task Force Report on Breast Cancer in India<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>India\u00a0<\/strong>is recording nearly\u00a0<strong>200,000 new cancer cases each year.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Sixty percent of the global population resides in Asia, which accounts for 50% of cancer cases and 58% of cancer-related deaths.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>India\u00a0<strong>ranks third<\/strong>\u00a0in accounting for cancer cases,<strong>\u00a0following China and the United States\u00a0<\/strong>of America.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0<strong>projected cancer burdenin India\u00a0<\/strong>is\u00a0<strong>estimated to reach 2.08 million by 2040<\/strong>, representing a 57.5% increase from 2020.<\/li>\n<li><strong>In India, breast cancer<\/strong>\u00a0is the<strong>\u00a0most common malignancy among women<\/strong>\u00a0and a leading cause of cancer-related deaths.<\/li>\n<li>The proportion of\u00a0<strong>patients diagnosed with breast cancer at a younger age<\/strong>\u00a0is notably\u00a0<strong>higher in India\u00a0<\/strong>when\u00a0<strong>compared with high-income countries.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Additionally,\u00a0<strong>patients in India tend to present with later-stage disease<\/strong>\u00a0compared to the West.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>More than 60%\u00a0<\/strong>of patients in India\u00a0<strong>present at Stage 3 or 4,<\/strong>\u00a0while around 60% of the patients in the U.S. are diagnosed in situ or at Stage 1.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It adds that\u00a0<strong>more than 50% of patients<\/strong>\u00a0in India\u00a0<strong>experience a delay of over three months before seeking medical care.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>In India<\/strong>\u00a0the\u00a0<strong>survival rate for patients with breast cancer is lower<\/strong>\u00a0compared to
