recorded over five lakh birds across 200 species in its latest census, a sharp 21% jump from 4.12 lakh in 2024, largely due to the absence of boating, reduced tourist movement, and minimal noise pollution over the past two years.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About <\/b><b>Nalsarovar Bird Sanctuary<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is located approximately 64 km <\/span><b>west of Ahmedabad<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in <\/span><b>Gujarat<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nal Sarovar literally <\/span><b>translates to \u2018Tap Lake\u2019.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>natural lake<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with <\/span><b>shallow waters<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>muddy lagoons<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, dotted by <\/span><b>36 islets.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spread over an area of 120.82 sq.km., this sanctuary is a<\/span><b> paradise for bird watchers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and nature enthusiasts.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>history <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of Nalsarovar <\/span><b>dates back to the 15th centur<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">y, when the lake was <\/span><b>created <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">as a result of the <\/span><b>construction of a check dam<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> across the <\/span><b>Sabarmati River.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The lake was <\/span><b>initially used for irrigation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and as a <\/span><b>source of drinking water<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for nearby villages.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Over time<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the lake became an<\/span><b> important habitat<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for a variety of <\/span><b>bird species<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and local communities recognized its ecological significance.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the <\/span><b>early 20th century, the British<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> colonial administration recognized the importance of Nalsarovar as a wetland ecosystem and <\/span><b>established <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">it as a <\/span><b>protected area.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 1969, the Gujarat government declared Nalsarovar a bird sanctuary to primarily protect its bird population.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was declared as a <\/span><b>Ramsar site<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on 24 September 2012.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Flora<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The sanctuary area has 48 species of algae and 72 species of flowering plants.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>common aquatic plants<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are <\/span><b>Cyperus sp., Scirpus sp.,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Typha ungustata, Eleocharis palustris, Ruppia, Potamogeton, Vallisnaria, Naias, Chara, etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It also includes <\/span><b>locally famous \u2018pilu\u2019 trees<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which harbor a red berry type edible fruit.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Fauna<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s home to over 250 species of birds, including beautiful <\/span><b>migratory birds<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that travel from places as <\/span><b>far away as Europe and Siberia.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Apart from these,<\/span><b> typical species like pelicans, ducks, herons, and storks<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> can be found easily.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Other animals<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: On southern or southwestern fringes, small herds of <\/span><b>wild ass c<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">an be seen. <\/span><b>Mongoose, jungle
