


{"id":49386,"date":"2025-06-05T14:38:30","date_gmt":"2025-06-05T09:08:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=49386"},"modified":"2025-06-06T14:59:36","modified_gmt":"2025-06-06T09:29:36","slug":"kulsi-river","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/kulsi-river\/","title":{"rendered":"Kulsi River"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Kulsi River Latest News<\/h2>\n<p>Ignoring warnings by environmentalists, the Assam and Meghalaya governments have decided to jointly set up a 55 MW hydropower project on the Kulsi, a small river known as a nesting ground for the endangered river dolphins.<\/p>\n<h2>About Kulsi River<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a\u00a0<strong>south-bank tributary of<\/strong>\u00a0the mighty\u00a0<strong>Brahmaputra\u00a0<\/strong>River.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Course<\/strong>:\u00a0\n<ul>\n<li>It is c<strong>omposed of three rivers,<\/strong>\u00a0namely\u00a0<strong>Khri, Krishniya, and Umsiri,<\/strong>\u00a0all of which\u00a0<strong>originate from the West Khasi hill ranges of Meghalay<\/strong>a from an elevation of over 1800 metres and flow north.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The river is known as Khri in the upper catchments, and after being joined by two other tributaries, namely Krishniya and Umsiri, within the Khasi hills in Meghalaya, it\u00a0<strong>flows northwest and enters Assam<\/strong>\u00a0at Ukium.<\/li>\n<li>After that it flows north upto Kulsi village through the plains of Kamrup District of Assam.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Finally, it\u00a0<strong>outflows into the Brahmaputra\u00a0<\/strong>near Nagarbera.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The river Kulsi drains out a total area of 3770 sq. km.
