{"id":4984,"date":"2023-01-11T07:44:37","date_gmt":"2023-01-11T02:14:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=4984"},"modified":"2025-03-27T03:35:50","modified_gmt":"2025-03-26T22:05:50","slug":"village-defence-guards-scheme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/village-defence-guards-scheme\/","title":{"rendered":"Village Defence Guards Scheme"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The aim of VDGs is <strong>to organize a small group of volunteer armed civilians<\/strong> in the identified <strong>villages along the borders<\/strong> as well as in-depth <strong>areas of the Jammu division<\/strong>, with a view to instill a sense of self-protection and ensure safety and security of such villages.<\/li>\n<li>VDGs shall be charged with the <strong>responsibility of protecting community installations and infrastructural facilities <\/strong>within the defined areas of their village.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Key facts about VDGs:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The Village Defence Committees (VDCs)<\/strong> were set up in the 1990s to <strong>arm villagers for self-defense purposes in the J&amp;K region.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>In 2020, the policy of Village Defence Committees was revamped and Village Defence Groups were introduced, members of whom are called Village Defence Guards (VDGs).<\/li>\n<li>Based on assessment by law enforcement agencies, a group of armed civilians belonging to the \u2018more vulnerable areas\u2019 <strong>not more than 15 in number in each group<\/strong>, who shall be designated as VDGs shall be formed.<\/li>\n<li>Each group will be called the \u2018<strong>Village Defence Group<\/strong>\u2019 and shall be <strong>headed by a retired officer of the Army\/Central Para Military Force (CPMF)\/J&amp;K Police.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>All VDGs are<strong> eligible for a monthly remuneration.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The VDGs also f<strong>unction under the supervision of district superintendent of police(SP)\/Senior superintendent of police(SSP).<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1) What are CPMF groups?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>These are technically paramilitary forces formerly known as Central Para-Military Forces (CPMF). Since 2011, India adopted the term &#8220;central armed police forces&#8221; to drop the word &#8220;paramilitary&#8221;. These forces are responsible for internal security and guarding the borders.
