{"id":49858,"date":"2025-06-12T12:00:36","date_gmt":"2025-06-12T06:30:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=49858"},"modified":"2025-06-12T13:46:13","modified_gmt":"2025-06-12T08:16:13","slug":"cropic-initiative","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/cropic-initiative\/","title":{"rendered":"CROPIC Initiative"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CROPIC Initiative Latest News<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare plans to launch CROPIC, a study to gather crop information using field photographs and AI-based models.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">About CROPIC Initiative<\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CROPIC stands for <\/span><b>Collection of Real Time Observations &amp; Photo of Crops<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is an initiative under the <\/span><b>Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with a dual purpose of <\/span><b>monitoring crop health<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and stress and automation of crop loss assessment and payment of claims to affected farmers using computer vision technology and photo-analytic models.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under this initiative, <\/span><b>crops <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">will be <\/span><b>photographed four-five times during their cycle<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and the pictures will be analysed to assess their health and potential mid-season losses.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The study will be carried out for <\/span><b>two seasons initially<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, kharif 2025 and rabi 2025-26.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The study envisages collection of field photographs during the crop season <\/span><b>using CROPIC mobile application<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which has been developed by the Union Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers\u2019 Welfare&#8230;&#8230;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Working of CROPIC<\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>photographs <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">from the field will be <\/span><b>crowd-sourced directly from farmers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Then, they will be analysed for information including <\/span><b>crop type, crop stage, crop damage and its extent<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This model will use an <\/span><b>AI-based cloud platform<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for photo analysis and information extraction, and a web-based dashboard for visualisation.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also, when compensation or insurance is to be paid to farmers, officials will collect the photographs using the CROPIC Mobile App.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It will be rolled out initially in at <\/span><b>least 50 districts per season<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
