{"id":5000,"date":"2023-01-14T06:50:30","date_gmt":"2023-01-14T01:20:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=5000"},"modified":"2025-03-27T03:41:48","modified_gmt":"2025-03-26T22:11:48","slug":"what-is-ace2-enzyme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-is-ace2-enzyme\/","title":{"rendered":"What is ACE2 Enzyme?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>Why in News?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Researchers have created thin, <strong>thread-like strands of molecules called supramolecular filaments<\/strong> capable of blocking the virus in its tracks.<\/li>\n<li>The key to this approach is the way that the <strong>filaments carry a receptor called angiotensin converting enzyme-2, or ACE2.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>ACE2 provides the entry point for the coronavirus to hook into and infect a wide range of human cells.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The team&#8217;s <strong>newly developed filament, called fACE2<\/strong>, serves as a decoy binding site for the virus, with each filament offering several receptors for the COVID-19 spike protein to attach to, and <strong>silences ACE2&#8217;s biological functions to avoid potential side effects<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>What is ACE2:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a <strong>protein on the surface of many cell types and tissues <\/strong>including the lungs, heart, blood vessels, kidneys, liver and gastrointestinal tract.<\/li>\n<li>It is an <strong>enzyme that generates small proteins<\/strong> \u2013 by cutting up the larger protein angiotensinogen \u2013 that then go on to regulate functions in the cell.<\/li>\n<li>ACE2 is <strong>present in all people<\/strong> but the quantity can vary among individuals and in different tissues and cells.<\/li>\n<li>It is <strong>present in epithelial cells, which line certain tissues and create protective barriers.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>ACE2 is a <strong>vital element in a biochemical pathway<\/strong> that is critical to regulating processes such as blood pressure, wound healing and inflammation, called the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS) pathway.<\/li>\n<li>ACE2 helps m<strong>odulate the many activities of a protein called angiotensin II (ANG II)<\/strong> that increases blood pressure and inflammation, increasing damage to blood vessel linings and various types of tissue injury.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1<strong>)<\/strong>\u00a0What are epithelial cells?<\/h3>\n<p>They are a type of cell that covers the inside and outside of the surfaces of your body.
