{"id":50271,"date":"2025-06-14T14:03:10","date_gmt":"2025-06-14T08:33:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=50271"},"modified":"2025-06-17T12:08:03","modified_gmt":"2025-06-17T06:38:03","slug":"aircraft-accident-investigation-bureau","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/aircraft-accident-investigation-bureau\/","title":{"rendered":"Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau Latest News<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) launched a formal investigation to determine what went wrong in Air India flight AI-17, operating a Boeing 787 crash.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>About Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a government agency <\/span><b>established in 2012<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> within the <\/span><b>Ministry of Civil Aviation.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Its primary responsibility is to <\/span><b>investigate aircraft accidents<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and serious incidents in India\u2019s airspace. The purpose is to determine how the accident happened and recommend safety improvements, not to assign blame or punish people.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Before AAIB, such investigations were handled by the <\/span><b>Directorate General of Civil Aviation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (DGCA), which also regulated airlines.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Mandate of Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is responsible for classification of \u2018Safety Occurrences\u2019 involving aircraft operating in the Indian Airspace into Accidents, Serious Incidents and Incidents.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All Accidents and Serious Incidents involving aircraft with AUW <\/span><b>more than 2250 Kgs or Turbojet aircraft<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are investigated by AAIB.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AAIB may investigate serious incidents or incidents to aircraft apart from the ones mentioned above, if it appears expedient to hold an investigation into the circumstances of such serious incident or incident.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As per the Rule 3 of Aircraft (Investigation of Accidents and Incidents) Rules, 2017 the sole objective of the investigations carried out by AAIB is <\/span><b>prevention of accidents and incidents and not to apportion blame or liability<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Key functions of Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Investigate all aircraft accidents<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and serious incidents in Indian airspace<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Collect evidence<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (black boxes, flight data, witness statements)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Analyze causes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and issue safety recommendations<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Publish final reports<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for global aviation authorities<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After completion of the investigation and acceptance of the same by the <\/span><b>Director General, AAIB,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the Investigation Reports are made public and published by AAIB on its website.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The accepted \u2018Final Investigation Reports\u2019 are also <\/span><b>forwarded to the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the States participating in the investigation.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.livemint.com\/news\/india\/what-is-the-aircraft-accident-investigation-bureau-heres-a-look-at-some-crucial-cases-aaib-investigated-11749851088362.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">LM<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau, established in 2012 under the Ministry of Civil Aviation, investigates aircraft accidents and ensures aviation safety in India.
