{"id":50465,"date":"2025-06-16T14:49:19","date_gmt":"2025-06-16T09:19:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=50465"},"modified":"2025-06-16T16:51:33","modified_gmt":"2025-06-16T11:21:33","slug":"avilist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/avilist\/","title":{"rendered":"AviList"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>AviList Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the AviList became live after four years of work by the Working Group on Avian Checklists.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About AviList<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the first-ever unified global <\/span><b>checklist of bird species.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The new checklist will replace the <\/span><b>International Ornithological Committee<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (IOC) and <\/span><b>Clements lists and<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> will be updated annually.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Launched by:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0 Under the Working Group on Avian Checklists included representatives from <\/span><b>BirdLife International, the Cornell Lab of Ornithology,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the <\/span><b>American Ornithologists Society<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the International Ornithologists\u2019 Union, and Avibase.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The list contains <\/span><b>11,131 species, 19,879 subspecies<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, 2,376 genera, 252 families and 46 orders. It has thus brought together global thinking on what constitutes a species and shakes up humanity\u2019s understanding of the avian world.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Benefits of new AviList<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The new list will especially help scientists get <\/span><b>clarity on conservation priorities.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It will <\/span><b>benefit conservation, removing the current confusion<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and uncertainty resulting from the existence of multiple lists.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It will make it easier for birders, scientists, policymakers and conservationists to share information, use and link different online platforms, and share a common understanding of avian distribution, ecology and conservation priorities.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>\u00a0<\/b><b>Source: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.downtoearth.org.in\/wildlife-biodiversity\/avilist-first-ever-unified-global-checklist-of-bird-species-is-now-live\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><b>DTE<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>AviList is the first-ever unified global checklist of bird species, aiming to standardize bird names and classifications for researchers, birders, and conservationists.
