{"id":50772,"date":"2026-05-19T11:10:24","date_gmt":"2026-05-19T05:40:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=50772"},"modified":"2026-05-20T14:17:49","modified_gmt":"2026-05-20T08:47:49","slug":"support-for-marginalised-individuals-for-livelihood-and-enterprise-scheme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/support-for-marginalised-individuals-for-livelihood-and-enterprise-scheme\/","title":{"rendered":"SMILE Scheme"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>SMILE Mission Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Chinese and European space agencies are launching SMILE, their first joint mission, to investigate Earth\u2019s defenses against the Sun.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About SMILE Mission<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SMILE (<\/span><b>Solar wind Magnetosphere Ionosphere Link Explorer<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) is a <\/span><b>joint ESA<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (<\/span><b>European Space Agency)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>Chinese Academy of Sciences<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (CAS) mission.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It will study the interaction of the <\/span><b>solar wind<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with the <\/span><b>Earth\u2019s magnetosphere<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>ionosphere<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Aim:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It aims to <\/span><b>capture the first X-ray images of Earth\u2019s protective magnetic shield<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in action as it battles and deflects harmful charged particles and energies coming from the Sun.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It will be positioned at <\/span><b>about 1.21 lakh km above Earth\u2019s north pole<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and be able to observe the edge of the magnetosphere in its entirety.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Mission Life:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> SMILE weighs about 2,600 kg and has a <\/span><b>mission life of about three years.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Instruments:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The mission is carrying <\/span><b>four scientific instruments<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ESA has developed the <\/span><b>Soft X-ray Imager<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (SXI), whereas the Chinese team has developed the other three payloads \u2014 <\/span><b>Magnetometer, Light Ion Analyser (LIA) and Ultraviolet aurora Imager (UVI).<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The four instruments will <\/span><b>operate both on X-ray and ultraviolet wavelengths<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the electromagnetic spectrum.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All these payloads will use <\/span><b>remote sensing and make in situ<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (on site) observations along the <\/span><b>near-Earth regions.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Significance of SMILE Mission<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is designed to answer the <\/span><b>interaction of a stream of solar<\/b> <b>wind<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with <\/span><b>Earth\u2019s magnetic<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> shield and the magnetic glitches occurring on the dark side of Earth.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It will help solar physicists better <\/span><b>understand space weather.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It will also <\/span><b>help forecasting<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> any <\/span><b>impending solar storm<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or likely perturbations to space weather.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source:<\/b> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/article\/explained\/explained-sci-tech\/smile-mission-earth-magnetosphere-solar-storms-10695581\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">IE<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SMILE Mission is a joint ESA (European Space Agency) and Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) mission.
