{"id":5092,"date":"2022-12-01T12:57:38","date_gmt":"2022-12-01T07:27:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=5092"},"modified":"2025-03-27T04:13:50","modified_gmt":"2025-03-26T22:43:50","slug":"undps-plastic-waste-management-programme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/undps-plastic-waste-management-programme\/","title":{"rendered":"UNDP\u2019s Plastic Waste Management Programme"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>Why in news?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>\u00a0As part of the initiative, the UNDP will distribute the `Jan Dhan\u2019 account kits to waste segregation workers.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The opening of the `Jan Dhan\u2019 accounts has been facilitated through the <strong>UNDP\u2019s plastic waste management programme.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The waste management promotes the collection, segregation, and recycling of all plastics to move towards a circular economy for the same.<\/li>\n<li>This is done at <strong>\u2018Swachhta Kendra\u2019 or material recovery facilities.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The plastic collected and processed so far has already crossed 1,38,000 metric tonnes.<\/li>\n<li>The programme also ensures the well-being and financial inclusion of the `Safai Sathis\u2019 or waste-pickers, by linking them to the social protection schemes.<\/li>\n<li>According to the UN agency, a key <strong>objective of the programme is to help move the sector from informal to formal.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>This is done by <strong>linking them to social protection schemes<\/strong> like the `Jan Dhan\u2019 accounts, Aadhar cards, `Ayushman Bharat\u2019, pension schemes, and scholarships for children, among others.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1) What is the role of UNDP?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>UNDP helps developing countries attract and use aid effectively.
