{"id":51158,"date":"2025-09-27T09:26:47","date_gmt":"2025-09-27T03:56:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=51158"},"modified":"2025-09-27T14:59:09","modified_gmt":"2025-09-27T09:29:09","slug":"central-american-integration-system","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/central-american-integration-system\/","title":{"rendered":"Central American Integration System"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Central American Integration System Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the external affairs Minister highlighted India&#8217;s deepening engagement with the countries of the Central American Integration System (SICA) during the India-SICA Foreign Minister&#8217;s Meeting.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Central American Integration System<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the institutional framework of <\/span><b>Regional Integration in Central America.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Background:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It was established on <\/span><b>December 13, 1991,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by the signing of the Protocol to the Charter of the Organization of Central American States (ODECA) or <\/span><b>Tegucigalpa Protocol,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which amended <\/span><b>the Charter of ODECA<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, signed in Panama on December 12, 1962, and <\/span><b>formally came into operation on February 1, 1993.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Member countries:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It was created by the States of <\/span><b>Costa Rica,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama. Subsequently, <\/span><b>Belize and Dominican Republic<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> joined as full members.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The SICA initiative was widely supported by the <\/span><b><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/united-nations-general-assembly-unga\/\" target=\"_blank\">United Nations General Assembly<\/a>,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with the Tegucigalpa Protocol being duly registered with the UN.<\/span><\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Governance of Central American Integration System<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Presidency of SICA rotates <\/span><b>every six months<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Secretariat:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is located in the <\/span><b>Republic of El Salvador.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Objectives of Central American Integration System<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The fundamental objective of SICA is to <\/span><b>realize regional Peace, Liberty, Democracy<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and Development, based firmly on the respect and promotion of human rights.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It also focuses on <\/span><b>integration of the region,<\/b> <b>formation of a Free Trade Area and later a Customs Union<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, integration of infrastructure, common position on regional and global issues and common passport and visa policy.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source:<\/b> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/economictimes.indiatimes.com\/news\/india\/india-strengthens-ties-with-sica-countries-focuses-on-trade-and-digital-payments-eam\/articleshow\/124142830.cms?from=mdr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">ET<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Central American Integration System is the institutional framework of Regional Integration in Central America.
