has been discovered in the Nilgiris in Tamil Nadu.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Dravidogecko Coonoor<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the <\/span><b>new species of gecko<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> discovered in Coonoor Hills of the <\/span><b>Upper Nilgiris, Western Ghats,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> India.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Habitat:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is found in a matrix<\/span><b> of montane forests<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and monoculture plantations amidst human habitations.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is noted in <\/span><b>both urban as well as natural habitats<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, including the walls of a building, on the branches of plants, and in tree bark and wall crevices.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the only species of gecko <\/span><b>endemic to the high elevation regions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the Western Ghats.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Following the discovery of the new gecko species in Coonoor, the number of Dravidogecko species found across the Western Ghats now stands at nine.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>What is Gecko?<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These <\/span><b>are reptiles<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and are found on <\/span><b>all the continents except Antarctica.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These colorful lizards have adapted to habitats from rainforests, to deserts, to cold mountain slopes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These are mostly small, usually nocturnal reptiles.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Geckos are spread across six families: Carphodactylidae, Diplodactylidae, Eublepharidae,
