


{"id":51761,"date":"2025-06-25T12:56:08","date_gmt":"2025-06-25T07:26:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=51761"},"modified":"2025-06-25T15:15:15","modified_gmt":"2025-06-25T09:45:15","slug":"state-of-the-climate-in-asia-2024-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/state-of-the-climate-in-asia-2024-report\/","title":{"rendered":"State of the Climate in Asia 2024 Report"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>State of the Climate in Asia 2024 Report Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The State of the Climate in Asia 2024 report stated that the year 2024 was the warmest year on record in Asia, with widespread and prolonged heatwaves.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About State of the Climate in Asia 2024 Report<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is published by<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the <\/span><b>World Meteorological Organisation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (WMO).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the <\/span><b>fifth edition of climate reports<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> published annually for this region and has involved National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs), WMO Regional Climate Centres (RCCs), and several research institutions, as well as United Nations agencies, international and regional organizations.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The report provides the status of key climate indicators and latest data and information on <\/span><b>impacts, risks and policy<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from United Nations agencies.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Key Findings of the Report\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>global mean temperature<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in 2024 was the <\/span><b>highest on record<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for the period 1850-2024,<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each of the years from 2015 to 2024 was one of the 10 warmest years on record.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Sea surface temperatures<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> were the <\/span><b>highest on<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> record, with Asia\u2019s sea surface decadal warming rate nearly double the global average.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Sea level rise<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on the Pacific and Indian Ocean sides of Asia <\/span><b>exceeded the global average<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, heightening risks for low-lying coastal areas, according to the report.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It also highlighted changes in key climate indicators such as surface <\/span><b>temperature, glacier mass and sea level<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which will have major <\/span><b>repercussions for societies<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, economies and ecosystems in the region.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2024, most of the ocean areas of Asia were affected by marine <\/span><b>heatwaves of strong, severe<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, or extreme intensity \u2014 the largest extent since records began in 1993.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>northern Indian Ocean<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and in the ocean area adjacent to Japan, the Yellow Sea, and East China Sea were <\/span><b>especially affected.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Three out of four cyclones formed over the Bay of Bengal (Remal, Dana, Fengal), and one formed over the Arabian Sea (Asna).\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Extreme high temperatures<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> affected the <\/span><b>Makkah region of Saudi Arabia<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in mid-June with temperatures reaching 49 \u00b0C.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/sci-tech\/energy-and-environment\/asia-is-warming-at-twice-the-global-average-wmo-report\/article69727259.ece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><b>TH<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>State of the Climate in Asia 2024 Report, published by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), highlights key climate trends and impacts across Asia.
