


{"id":51775,"date":"2025-06-25T12:55:57","date_gmt":"2025-06-25T07:25:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=51775"},"modified":"2025-06-25T15:47:56","modified_gmt":"2025-06-25T10:17:56","slug":"sree-narayana-guru","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/sree-narayana-guru\/","title":{"rendered":"Sree Narayana Guru"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Sree Narayana Guru Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Prime Minister recently attended the centenary celebration of the historic 1925 conversation between Mahatma Gandhi and Sree Narayana Guru at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>About Sree Narayana Guru<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sree Narayana Guru (20 August 1856 \u2013 20 September 1928) was a <\/span><b>saint, philosopher,<\/b> <b>spiritual leader,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>social reformer from Kerala.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Guru was born into an <\/span><b>Ezhava family in an era when<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> people from <\/span><b>backward communities like the Ezhavas faced social injustice<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the caste-ridden Kerala society.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sree Narayan Guru, <\/span><b>under the<\/b> <b>guidance of Ayyavu Swamikal,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> learned yoga and meditation. This led to him becoming a <\/span><b>hermit for eight years,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> during which he <\/span><b>practised yoga and meditation to attain spirituality.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Gurudevan<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, as he was <\/span><b>known among his follower<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">s, led a reform movement in Kerala, <\/span><b>revolted against the caste system, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and worked on <\/span><b>propagating<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> new <\/span><b>values of freedom in spirituality and social equality, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">which transformed Kerala society.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He is <\/span><b>revered for his Vedic knowledge<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>poetic proficiency,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> openness to the views of others, <\/span><b>non-violent philosophy<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and unrelenting resolve to set right social wrongs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He was one of the most successful social reformers to revolt against the caste system in India.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He demonstrated a path to social emancipation without invoking the dualism of the oppressed and the oppressor.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Philosophy<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: \u201c<\/span><b>Oru Jathi, Oru Matham, Oru Daivam, Manushyanu<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d translates to \u201c<\/span><b>One Caste, One Religion, One God for Mankind\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and is a core message advocated by Shri Narayana Guru.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Aruvippuram Movement (1888): <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sree Narayana Guru <\/span><b>consecrated a Shiva idol<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at <\/span><b>Aruvippuram<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a village in present-day Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala, <\/span><b>symbolising resistance against social injustice<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, particularly the caste-based restrictions <\/span><b>that barred lower castes from temple entry.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Guru went on to <\/span><b>establish more than 40 temples <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">across the state of Kerala, to <\/span><b>enable everyone, including the lower caste <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and oppressed segments of society, to <\/span><b>practise their faith.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He <\/span><b>opened several ashrams, schools, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">etc., for children and others from underprivileged societies. Here,<\/span><b> free education was provided to everyone, irrespective of their caste.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He <\/span><b>founded an ashram, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">or religious retreat,<\/span><b> on Sivagiri hill, near Varkkallai, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in 1904. The ashram is now <\/span><b>called Sivagiri Matha (or Sivagiri Mutt).<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Established SNDP:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under the Indian Companies Act, the<\/span><b> Sri Narayana Guru Dharma Paripalana Yogam (SNDP) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was established in <\/span><b>1903<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Narayana Guru<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> served as its <\/span><b>permanent chairman,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> while <\/span><b>Kumaran Asan<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a <\/span><b>renowned poet and disciple of Guru<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, became its <\/span><b>general secretary.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Ezhava\u2019s right to attend public schools, access to government services<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><b>political representation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> were all addressed by the SNDP.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Guru <\/span><b>also led the \u2018Vaikom Satyagraha\u2019<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> protest movement against caste discrimination, untouchability, and inequality.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Sivagiri foundation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was <\/span><b>established in 1924 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">by the Guru to <\/span><b>promote virtues of cleanliness, education, devotion, agriculture,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> handicrafts, and trade.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><b> Sivagiri pilgrimage <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(Sivagiri Theerthadanam), i<\/span><b>nitiated by his followers,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> promotes values of purity, education, and organization.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Literary Contributions: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He authored several important works, including <\/span><b>Advaitha Deepika, Atmavilasam, Daiva Dasakam, and Brahmavidya Panchakam. <\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">After his death, <b style=\"font-size: inherit;\">Guru\u2019s birth anniversary<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was established as \u201c<\/span><b style=\"font-size: inherit;\">Sri Narayana Jayanthi,\u201d <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and both his birth and death days are observed as public holidays in Kerala and other states.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Source<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newindianexpress.com\/states\/kerala\/2025\/Jun\/25\/pm-modi-gurudevan-gandhiji-meeting-remains-inspirational-even-today\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NIE<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sree Narayana Guru (20 August 1856 \u2013 20 September 1928) was a saint, philosopher, spiritual leader, and social reformer from Kerala.
