{"id":52607,"date":"2025-06-30T13:59:24","date_gmt":"2025-06-30T08:29:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=52607"},"modified":"2025-06-30T13:59:24","modified_gmt":"2025-06-30T08:29:24","slug":"botrytis-fungi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/botrytis-fungi\/","title":{"rendered":"Botrytis Fungi"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Botrytis Fungi Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, researchers from Sichuan University and the University of British Columbia have found that botrytis fungi (Botrytis cinerea) cannot be cloned.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Botrytis Fungi<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a widespread <\/span><b>necrotrophic fungal pathogen<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Botrytis cinerea needs to <\/span><b>obtain nutrients<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> before it can penetrate a plant.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dead or damaged plant tissue, such as old flower petals, can provide nutrients that the fungus needs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Owing to this feeding source, the infection gains strength and <\/span><b>spreads to healthy plant tissues.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> A brownish rot develops in newly infected tissues, which is how Botrytis cinerea deteriorates plants.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These fungi usually <\/span><b>attack blossoms and fruit<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but they can also cause <\/span><b>rot and blight on buds<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, stems, leaves, roots, bulbs, and tubers.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The fungus typically targets fragile, wounded, aging, or dead plant parts.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It <\/span><b>infects grapes, penetrates the skin, causes the berries<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to lose water by evaporation and shrivel up, and thus concentrates the sugars and flavours in them.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was also found recently that this fungi <\/span><b>exhibits an unusual idiosyncrasy.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In these fungi, <\/span><b>no single nucleus contains a complete set of chromosomes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
