400;\">Gross Value of Output, or GVO, is a measure of production that refers to the total value of the items produced before subtracting the value of inputs used in production.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Agriculture Output Report<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The National Statistics Office (NSO), under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), has released the annual \u201cStatistical Report on Value of Output from Agriculture and Allied Sectors (2011-12 to 2023-24)\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The report provides comprehensive data on the value of output from crops, livestock, forestry &amp; logging, and fishing &amp; aquaculture, at both current and constant (2011\u201312) prices.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Key Highlights of the Agriculture Output Report<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reflecting evolving food habits, farmers are increasingly shifting from traditional staples to high-value crops.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New data highlights a significant transformation in agricultural output trends over the past decade.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Robust Growth in Agriculture GVA at Current Prices<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Gross Value Added (GVA) of agriculture and allied sectors at current prices grew by approximately 225%, rising from \u20b91,502 thousand crore in 2011\u201312 to \u20b94,878 thousand crore in 2023\u201324.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Steady Rise in GVO at Constant Prices<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The GVO at constant (2011\u201312) prices increased by about 54.6%, from \u20b91,908 thousand crore in 2011\u201312 to \u20b92,949 thousand crore in 2023\u201324, indicating consistent real growth in the sector.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Sharp Rise in High-Value Fruits and Vegetables<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Between 2011\u201312 and 2023\u201324, the Gross Value of Output (GVO) of certain fruits and vegetables surged dramatically:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Strawberries: GVO rose over 40 times to \u20b955.4 crore (constant prices), and nearly 80 times to \u20b9103.27 crore (current prices).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Parmal (Parwal): Increased 17-fold to \u20b9789 crore.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pomegranate: Grew over 4 times to \u20b99,231 crore.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mushrooms: Jumped 3.5 times to \u20b91,704 crore.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Meat Gains, Cereals Lose Share in Agri Output<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Meat<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Its share in the GVO of agriculture and allied sectors rose from <\/span><b>5% in 2011\u201312 to 7.5% in 2023\u201324<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Cereals<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Declined from <\/span><b>17.6% to 14.5%<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> over the same period, indicating a diversification away from staple grains.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Spices Also on the Rise<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Improved processing and growing demand boosted the GVO of spices, especially dry ginger, which surged by 285% to \u20b911,004 crore.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Rising Incomes Drive Shift Toward Animal and Fruit-Based Diets<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As incomes increased, the share of meat in agriculture GVO rose from 5% to 7.5% between 2011\u201312 and 2023\u201324.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, the 131% growth in meat GVO was still lower than that of strawberries and other high-value crops.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Modest Rise in Fruit Consumption Despite Output Growth<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite production growth, fruit consumption as a share of Monthly Per Capita Consumption Expenditure (MPCE) remained low:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rural MPCE: Rose from 2.25% to 2.66%<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Urban MPCE: Slight dip from 2.64% to 2.61%<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Yet, more rural households are now consuming fruits: From 63.8% in 2011\u201312 to 90.3% in 2022\u201323, especially among the bottom 20% income group.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>Cereals See Decline in Consumption and Output Share<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Reflecting changing dietary patterns:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Urban MPCE on cereals fell from
