{"id":53018,"date":"2025-08-26T11:03:43","date_gmt":"2025-08-26T05:33:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=53018"},"modified":"2025-08-26T12:56:08","modified_gmt":"2025-08-26T07:26:08","slug":"ins-udaygiri","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/ins-udaygiri\/","title":{"rendered":"INS Udaygiri and INS Himgiri"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>INS Udaygiri and INS Himgiri<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Indian Navy is set to commission the latest state of the art Project 17A multi-mission stealth frigates Udaygiri and Himgiri at Naval Base, Visakhapatnam, on 26 Aug 2025.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About INS Udaygiri and INS Himgiri<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Udaygiri and Himgiri are built under the <\/span><b>Project 17 (Shivalik) class frigates.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Udaygiri, <\/span><b>built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (MDL), Mumbai, and Himgiri, constructed by <\/span><b>Garden Reach Shipbuilders &amp; Engineers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (GRSE), Kolkata, showcase the nation\u2019s growing shipbuilding prowess, as well as, the synergy between India\u2019s premier defence shipyards.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Both frigates were <\/span><b>designed in-house by the Indian Navy\u2019s Warship Design Bureau<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (WDB).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Upon commissioning, the two frigates will join the Eastern Fleet, strengthening India\u2019s ability to safeguard its maritime interests across the Indian Ocean Region.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Features of INS Udaygiri and INS Himgiri<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ships <\/span><b>feature modern Combined Diesel or Gas<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (CODOG) propulsion plants, state of the art Integrated Platform Management System and a suite of advanced weapons and sensors developed by Indian manufacturers.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The ships, with <\/span><b>about 75% indigenous content,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> supported by hundreds of indigenous MSMEs, align with the Government\u2019s vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat in defence manufacturing.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Udaygiri also<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> holds the distinction of being the <\/span><b>fastest ship of her class<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to be delivered post-launch, a result of the <\/span><b>modular construction methodology<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> adopted by Indian shipyards.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Both these vessels incorporate significant improvements in design, stealth, weapon and sensors systems and are capable of executing full spectrum of maritime missions in Blue Water conditions.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Significance:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The commissioning of these two will augment the Navy\u2019s combat readiness and reaffirm India\u2019s resolve to achieve self-reliance in warship design and construction.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pib.gov.in\/PressReleseDetailm.aspx?PRID=2160573\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PIB<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>INS Udaygiri is the second among the seven Project 17A (P-17A) frigates under construction at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDSL) in Mumbai and Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers in Kolkata.
