{"id":5324,"date":"2022-12-04T04:10:01","date_gmt":"2022-12-03T22:40:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=5324"},"modified":"2025-03-27T05:39:11","modified_gmt":"2025-03-27T00:09:11","slug":"homo-erectus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/homo-erectus\/","title":{"rendered":"Homo Erectus"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>What is Homo erectus?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong>Homo erectus or &#8216;upright man&#8217;<\/strong> is an extinct species of the human genus.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>They most likely originated in Africa or Eurasia.<\/li>\n<li>Fossils connected with this species have been found ranging from Africa all the way to Southeast Asia.<\/li>\n<li>H. erectus had a similar range of body sizes to modern humans, and it is the first human ancestor to have similar limb and torso proportions to those seen in modern humans.<\/li>\n<li>Homo erectus&#8217; ability to make complex tools was possible because of the strength and dexterity in its hands, which it owes to a certain hand-bone projection called a <strong>&#8220;styloid process&#8221;.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>H. erectus appears to have been the first human species to control fire, some 1,000,000 years ago.<\/li>\n<li>The species seems to have flourished until some 200,000 years ago (200 kya) or perhaps later before giving way to other humans including Homo sapiens.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1) What is the difference between <\/strong><i><strong>Homo sapiens<\/strong><\/i><strong> and <\/strong><i><strong>Homo erectus<\/strong><\/i><strong>?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><i>Homo erectus<\/i> was the first upright man and the first hominin who used fire. He used sophisticated tools and lived in caves.
