{"id":5332,"date":"2026-10-05T11:52:46","date_gmt":"2026-10-05T06:22:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=5332"},"modified":"2026-10-05T13:12:14","modified_gmt":"2026-10-05T07:42:14","slug":"ramappa-temple","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/ramappa-temple\/","title":{"rendered":"Ramappa Temple"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Ramappa Temple Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the Kakatiya Heritage Trust has expressed concern over a proposed open-cast mining project by Singareni, alleging that it could pose a threat to the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Ramappa Temple and Ramappa Lake.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Ramappa Temple<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Location:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is located in the <\/span><b>state of Telangana.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was <\/span><b>constructed in 1213 AD<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> during the reign of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/kakatiya-dynasty\/\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Kakatiya Empire<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by RecharlaRudra, a general of Kakatiya king Ganapati Deva.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is also known as the <\/span><b>Rudreswara Temple and its <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">presiding deity here is <\/span><b>RamalingeswaraSwamy.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The temple <\/span><b>got its name Ramappa <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">because of its chief sculptor Ramappa.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ramappa Temple is probably the only temple in India that is named after the architect.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2021, the temple was inscribed as a <\/span><b>UNESCO World Heritage Site<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as <\/span><b>\u201cKakatiya Rudreshwara (Ramappa) Temple, Telangana\u201d.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Architectural Features of Ramappa Temple<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It features decorated <\/span><b>beams and pillars of carved granite and dolerite<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with a distinctive and <\/span><b>pyramidal Vimana<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (horizontally stepped tower) made of <\/span><b>lightweight porous bricks.<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The temple <\/span><b>stands on a 6 feet high star-shaped platform<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with walls, pillars and ceilings adorned with intricate carvings.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Earthquake-proof:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Made out of <\/span><b>clay mixed with acacia wood<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>chaff and myrobalan fruit<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (a family of amla), the bricks used in building the gopuram of the temple are light enough to float on water.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Using this<\/span><b> technique has made the temple light,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> meaning, in case of a natural event like an earthquake, the probability of it collapsing would be very low.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Sandbox technique:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The temple <\/span><b>construction was done using the sandbox technique<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
