


{"id":5332,"date":"2025-12-15T11:52:46","date_gmt":"2025-12-15T06:22:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=5332"},"modified":"2025-12-15T16:04:36","modified_gmt":"2025-12-15T10:34:36","slug":"ramappa-temple","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/ramappa-temple\/","title":{"rendered":"Ramappa Temple"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Ramappa Temple Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, ambassador and Permanent Representative of India to UNESCO-Paris visited the Ramappa Temple and reviewed the preservation and conservation efforts undertaken by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and the State government.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About\u00a0 Ramappa Temple<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is located in the <\/span><b>state of Telangana.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was <\/span><b>constructed in 1213<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> AD during the reign of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/kakatiya-dynasty\/\" target=\"_blank\"><b>Kakatiya Empire<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by RecharlaRudra, a general of Kakatiya king Ganapati Deva.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The presiding deity here is <\/span><b>RamalingeswaraSwamy.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is also known as the <\/span><b>Rudreswara Temple.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The temple got its name Ramappa because of its <\/span><b>chief sculptor Ramappa<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ramappa Temple is probably the only temple in India that is <\/span><b>named after the architect.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Architectural Features of Ramappa Temple<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The temple stands on a <\/span><b>6 feet high star-shaped platform<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with walls, pillars and ceilings adorned with intricate carvings.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Earthquake-proof:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Made out of clay mixed with acacia <\/span><b>wood, chaff and myrobalan fruit<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (a family of amla), the bricks used in building the gopuram of the temple are light enough to float on water.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Using this technique has made the temple light, meaning, in case of a natural event like an earthquake, the probability of it collapsing would be very low.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Sandbox technique:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The temple construction was done <\/span><b>using the sandbox technique.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> This is a technique where the foundation pit is filled with a mixture <\/span><b>of sand-lime, jaggery and black myrobalan fruit<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This mix acts as a cushion in case of earthquakes.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2021, the temple was inscribed as a <\/span><b>UNESCO World Heritage Site<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as \u201cKakatiya Rudreshwara (Ramappa) Temple, Telangana\u201d.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><b>Source:<\/b> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/national\/telangana\/ambassador-and-permanent-representative-of-india-to-unesco-reviews-conservation-works-at-ramappa-temple\/article70395370.ece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">TH<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ramappa Temple is located in the state of Telangana.
