text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He was an <\/span><b>Indian revolutionary<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> who waged an armed campaign <\/span><b>against British colonial rule in India.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Born to a Telugu-speaking family <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">on 4th July 1897 at Bhimavaram in present-day <\/span><b>Andhra Pradesh<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, he became involved in <\/span><b>opposing the British in response to the 1882 Madras Forest Act,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which effectively <\/span><b>restricted the free movement of Adivasis<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (tribal communities) in their forest habitats and <\/span><b>prevented them from practicing<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a traditional <\/span><b>form of agriculture known as \u2018Podu\u2019.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rising discontent towards the British led to the <\/span><b>Rampa Rebellion of 1922,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in which he played a major part as a leader.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mustering a force combined of Adivasis, farmers and sympathizers to their cause, he <\/span><b>engaged in guerilla campaigns<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> against the British colonial authorities in the <\/span><b>border regions of the Madras Presidency <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">part of the districts of East Godavari and Visakhapatnam (now part of Alluri Sitharama Raju district).\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He was <\/span><b>nicknamed &#8220;Manyam Veerudu&#8221; (Hero of the Jungle) by local villagers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for his heroic exploits.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alluri <\/span><b>adopted aspects from the Non-cooperation movement,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> such as promoting temperance, and the boycott of colonial courts in favour of local justice, administered by panchayat courts, to attract people&#8217;s support.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Although the movement died out in early 1922,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> it had reached the plains area by then, as he was<\/span><b> involved in the propagation of some of its methods among the hill people<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, to raise their political consciousness, and desire for change.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These actions <\/span><b>caused him to be put under the surveillance of police<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from around February of that year, although the fact that he was using them as a camouflage to foment armed uprising seems to have not been recognized by either the movement or the political leadership of the British.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After putting up a massive effort for nearly two years, the <\/span><b>British finally managed to capture Alluri <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in the forests of Chintapalle; he was then <\/span><b>tied to a tree and executed by shooting on 7 May 1924 i<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">n the village of Koyyuru.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A <\/span><b>tomb <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of him currently lies in the village of<\/span><b> Krishnadevipeta, near Visakhapatnam.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The heroic efforts of young Alluri in <\/span><b>fighting an all-out war without any state powers,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> against one of the most powerful empires have been recognised by all. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;
