{"id":53920,"date":"2025-07-08T14:22:51","date_gmt":"2025-07-08T08:52:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=53920"},"modified":"2025-07-08T15:58:51","modified_gmt":"2025-07-08T10:28:51","slug":"sheesh-mahal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/sheesh-mahal\/","title":{"rendered":"Sheesh Mahal"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Sheesh Mahal Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, a Mughal-era palace, Sheesh Mahal, located in Shalimar Bagh, North Delhi, was restored and unveiled by the Union Culture and Tourism minister.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Sheesh Mahal<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was built in <\/span><b>1653 by Izz-un-Nisha Begum<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, wife of Mughal Emperor <\/span><b><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/shah-jahan\/\" target=\"_blank\">Shah Jahan<\/a>.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This monument was a tribute \u2014 and a replica \u2014 of the Shalimar Bagh in Kashmir.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a fine example of <\/span><b>Mughal garden architecture<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> designed to be a royal retreat away from Shahjahanabad\u2019s bustle.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Construction:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Originally constructed of <\/span><b>bricks and red sandstone,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with entry gates in the east and west, the palace has an archway, flanked on either side by a three-arched dalan.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Beyond the archway is a central hall with a compartment at each wing.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The main <\/span><b>building of the Sheesh Mahal had a Baradari<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with a water channel running through it.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The paintings in two of its well maintained , mirror-worked chambers are <\/span><b>of Kangra and Rajasthani qalam, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">depicting the poetic visions of Keshav, Surdas and Bihari.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The red sandstone building adjacent to the Mahal is believed to have been used as hamam (public bathhouse), made of brick masonry and red sandstone.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Historical significance:<\/b> <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/aurangzeb-and-fall-of-mughals\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Aurangzeb<\/strong><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> held his <\/span><b>imperial coronation (1658<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) in this mahal.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 1983, it was declared a <\/span><b>monument of national importance,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the ASI has been preserving it since.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/cities\/Delhi\/mughal-era-sheesh-mahal-restored-and-reopened-in-delhi\/article69765822.ece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><b>TH<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sheesh Mahal, built in 1653 by Izz-un-Nisha Begum, wife of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, is a stunning palace known for its intricate mirror work and design.
