{"id":53953,"date":"2025-07-08T13:00:11","date_gmt":"2025-07-08T07:30:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=53953"},"modified":"2025-07-08T16:12:34","modified_gmt":"2025-07-08T10:42:34","slug":"national-overseas-scholarship-nos-scheme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/national-overseas-scholarship-nos-scheme\/","title":{"rendered":"National Overseas Scholarship (NOS) Scheme"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>National Overseas Scholarship Scheme Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Union Social Justice Ministry is in the process of seeking additional allocation for administering the National Overseas Scholarship scheme for marginalised students.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About National Overseas Scholarship Scheme<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>Central Sector Scheme<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to facilitate the <\/span><b>low-income students from marginalized communities,<\/b> <b>including <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the Scheduled Castes <\/span><b>(SC), <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/denotified-nomadic-and-semi-nomadic-tribes\/\" target=\"_blank\">Denotified Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes<\/a>, Landless Agricultural Labourers, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>Traditional Artisans<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, to obtain <\/span><b>higher education, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">viz., <\/span><b>Master degree or Ph.D courses, by studying abroad.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The scheme is administered by the <\/span><b>Ministry of Social Justice &amp; Empowerment.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Under the NOS Scheme,<\/span><b> each selection year, 125 fresh candidates <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">are <\/span><b>selected, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">subject to the availability of funds.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Out of the 125 candidates who are awarded scholarships, <\/span><b>115 are for SC<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> candidates, 6 for Denotified, Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes, and 4 are for Landless Agricultural Labourers candidates and Traditional Artisans.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>30% <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the scholarships for each year are earmarked <\/span><b>for female candidates.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>National Overseas Scholarship Scheme <\/b><b>Eligibility<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The applicant should be <\/span><b>less than 35 years<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of age on 1st April of the selection year.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The applicant must have been admitted to or r<\/span><b>eceived an unconditional offer of admission<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for pursuing a master&#8217;s\/Ph.D. <\/span><b>from an institute\/university located abroad.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The institute\/university of the applicant <\/span><b>must be accredited by the Government\/authorized body of that country.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The applicant must have secured at least <\/span><b>60% marks or equivalent grade in the qualifying examination<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (In the case of Ph.D. courses, the qualifying exam is a Master\u2019s Degree; In the case of a Master\u2019s Degree, the qualifying exam is a Bachelor&#8217;s Degree)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>total income of the family <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of the applicant (from all sources) is l<\/span><b>ess than or equal to \u20b9 8 lakh per annum.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>National Overseas Scholarship Scheme <\/b><b>Exclusions<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Bachelors-level courses<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, in any discipline, are <\/span><b>not covered<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> under this scheme.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>No more than two children of the same parents<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\/guardians will be e<\/span><b>ligible for scholarships. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The second child of the same parents\/guardians will be considered only if slots are still available in the last cycle of the year in which the applicant has applied.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Candidates already staying or studying<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or having completed studies <\/span><b>abroad by utilizing any other scholarship<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from the State Government, other agency, or through their own funds are<\/span><b> not eligible <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to apply under this scheme.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The candidate is <\/span><b>not eligible for a scholarship to pursue the same level (Masters\/Ph.D.) of course for which he\/she has already acquired<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the qualification from any University\/Institution either in India or abroad.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/national\/social-justice-ministry-seeks-additional-allocation-for-overseas-scholarship\/article69782915.ece\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TH<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>National Overseas Scholarship Scheme supports low-income students from marginalized communities to pursue Master&#8217;s or Ph.D. courses abroad.
