


{"id":54232,"date":"2025-07-10T11:38:28","date_gmt":"2025-07-10T06:08:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=54232"},"modified":"2025-07-10T13:57:50","modified_gmt":"2025-07-10T08:27:50","slug":"sepecat-jaguar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/sepecat-jaguar\/","title":{"rendered":"SEPECAT Jaguar"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>SEPECAT Jaguar Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Two pilots were killed after a SEPECAT Jaguar aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed near Churu in Rajasthan recently. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>About SEPECAT Jaguar<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The SEPECAT Jaguar, fondly <\/span><b>called &#8216;Shamsher&#8217;<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Sword of Justice), was a <\/span><b>joint venture between <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the <\/span><b>British Aircraft Corporation and the French Breguet Company<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (now part of Dassault).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">First introduced in 1968, it is a t<\/span><b>win-engine, ground-attack aircraft<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> primarily designed for deep penetration strike missions, especially against high-value ground targets in contested airspace.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>SEPECAT Jaguar <\/b><b>Features<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It can carry up to 4,500 kg of payload.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Jaguar can fly at a maximum <\/span><b>speed of 1,699 km\/h.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It can fly 850 km on its internal fuel tanks, and with an external drop tank, the combat range is increased to 1400 km.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has a max service ceiling of 46,000 ft.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Jaguar is of monoplane design with an aluminium airframe.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The aircraft is equipped with an <\/span><b>in-flight refuelling probe<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at the starboard side of the front fuselage <\/span><b>to execute air refuelling missions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> even under the worst weather conditions.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is equipped with spoilers, air brakes, rudder, double-slotted flaps, slats, critical systems, and a bulletproof windscreen.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It features an <\/span><b>all-digital cockpit<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> enclosed within a glass canopy. The cockpit is equipped with a head-up display, multifunctional display, night vision, and GPS.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other features include a <\/span><b>helmet-mounted display, radar altimeters,<\/b> <b>inertial navigation system<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, automatic direction finder, information friend or foe, weapon aiming computer and digital data bus.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>India\u2019s Jaguar Fleet<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>first batch of 40 Jaguars<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> was inducted into the IAF in fly-away condition beginning in 1979 and delivered in 1981.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Another 100 were license-built by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in 2008.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Overall, the IAF has inducted about 160 Jaguars of different variants over the years.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These include the single-seat strike fighter Jaguar IS, the two-seat trainer Jaguar IB, and the naval version Jaguar IM.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The IAF is the<\/span><b> world&#8217;s only air force still flying these <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">low-flying fighter bombers.
