


{"id":5432,"date":"2026-02-03T01:12:54","date_gmt":"2026-02-02T19:42:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=5432"},"modified":"2026-02-07T07:46:36","modified_gmt":"2026-02-07T02:16:36","slug":"new-railway-management-service-irms-examination","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/new-railway-management-service-irms-examination\/","title":{"rendered":"New Railway Management Service (IRMS) Examination"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>IRMS Exam:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>This will be a major departure from the current system of recruitment, which does not have a unique examination for IRMS.<\/li>\n<li>Like the Civil Services Exam (CSE), the new IRMS exam will be two-tiered \u2014\n<ul>\n<li><strong>a preliminary screening examination and<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>a main written examination and interview.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>It will be used to recruit officers to <strong>Group A services of the Indian Railways<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Group A IRMS officers can serve in any of the <strong>10 different organised railway services<\/strong>, divided into three separate cadres: technical services, administrative and accounts services, and medical services.<\/li>\n<li>Candidates need to appear for the Civil Services (Prelim) exam.<\/li>\n<li>This will be followed by a specific IRMS (Main) examination which will consist of four papers of conventional essay-type questions.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Exam Pattern:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Part 1 (Qualifying papers)<\/strong> will comprise two separate essay-type papers for 300 marks each.\n<ul>\n<li>One will be a test on any Indian language included in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution (at present, 22 languages).<\/li>\n<li>The other will be an English language test.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Part 2 (Papers to be counted for merit)<\/strong> will comprise two optional papers for 250 marks each.\n<ul>\n<li>The candidate is supposed to choose any one optional subject.<\/li>\n<li>The list of subjects available are:\n<ul>\n<li>Civil Engineering<\/li>\n<li>Mechanical Engineering<\/li>\n<li>Electrical Engineering<\/li>\n<li>Commerce and Accountancy<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Part 3 will be a personality test.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>This will be for 100 marks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Eligibility:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The minimum educational qualifications include a degree in engineering, commerce, or chartered accountancy.<\/li>\n<li>This means that the IRMS will no longer have officers with a background in social sciences or the pure sciences.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1) Who is Known as the Father of Indian Railways?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Lord Dalhousie is known as the Father of Indian Railways. He dedicated the country&#8217;s first passenger train on 16 April 1853 which ran between Bombay&#8217;s Bori Bunder station and Thane.
