{"id":54727,"date":"2026-10-06T12:18:29","date_gmt":"2026-10-06T06:48:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=54727"},"modified":"2026-10-06T14:27:07","modified_gmt":"2026-10-06T08:57:07","slug":"plague","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/plague\/","title":{"rendered":"Plague"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Plague Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A suspected case of pneumonic plague in Siberia has triggered heightened public-health precautions after a 28-year-old laboratory worker at an anti-plague research institute died following severe pneumonia.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Plague<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Plague is an <\/span><b>infectious disease<\/b> <b>caused by the bacteria Yersinia pestis<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, usually found in small mammals and their fleas.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Transmission<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is transmitted <\/span><b>between animals through fleas<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Humans can be infected through: <\/span><b>infected flea bites<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, contact with <\/span><b>infected animal tissues or fluids<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and in the case of pneumonic plague inhalation of respiratory particles from an infected person or animal.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Types of Plague<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Bubonic Plague<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the <\/span><b>most common form of plague<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and is caused by the bite of an <\/span><b>infected flea.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Plague bacillus, Y. pestis,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> enters at the bite and travels <\/span><b>through the lymphatic system<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to the nearest lymph node <\/span><b>where it replicates itself.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>lymph node then becomes inflamed<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, tense and painful, and is called a \u2018bubo\u2019.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At advanced stages of the infection, the inflamed lymph nodes can turn into open sores<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Symptoms:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Sudden onset <\/span><b>fever, chills, head and body aches and weakness<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, vomiting and nausea. Painful and inflamed lymph nodes can also appear.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Pneumonic Plague<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the <\/span><b>most virulent form of plague.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Transmission:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It transmits through respiratory droplets or particles from an <\/span><b>infected person that can infect another person,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> particularly during close and sustained contact.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Symptoms:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Its symptoms <\/span><b>can appear very rapidly,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> sometimes within 24 hours of infection.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It includes h<\/span><b>igh fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath and blood-stained sputum.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Septicaemic plague<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It occurs when <\/span><b>Y. pestis multiplies rapidly in the bloodstream<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It can develop <\/span><b>from any other form of plague<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Symptoms:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Bleeding under the skin and, in some cases, a <\/span><b>bluish discoloration of the skin<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (cyanosis) and <\/span><b>tissue death<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (necrosis) of the extremities.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Treatment For Plague<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is <\/span><b>no routinely recommended plague vaccination<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for the general public.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Antibiotics and supportive therapy<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> are effective against plague if patients are diagnosed in time.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/indianexpress.com\/article\/explained\/explained-health\/plague-types-symptoms-spread-treatment-10907595\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">IE<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Plague  is an infectious disease caused by the bacteria Yersinia pestis, usually found in small mammals and their fleas.
