{"id":5508,"date":"2024-09-22T01:43:43","date_gmt":"2024-09-21T20:13:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=5508"},"modified":"2025-03-27T09:14:53","modified_gmt":"2025-03-27T03:44:53","slug":"sri-venkateswara-temple","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/sri-venkateswara-temple\/","title":{"rendered":"Sri Venkateswara Temple"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Tirupati Balaji Temple:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>Tirumala Venkateswara Temple<\/strong>, also known as the Tirupati Balaji Temple, is a <strong>hindu temple<\/strong> situated in the hill town of Tirumala at Tirupati in Chittoor district of <strong>Andhra Pradesh.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The temple is situated at a height of 853 m above sea level and is positioned <strong>on Venkata Hill,<\/strong> which is <strong>one of the saptagiri (seven hills) of Tirumala Hills<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It is dedicated to <strong>Lord Sri Venkateswara<\/strong>, an <strong>incarnation of Vishnu.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It has been mentioned in holy scriptures such as the Garuda Purana, Brahma Purana and many others.<\/li>\n<li><strong>History<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>The temple\u2019s ancient roots can be <strong>traced to the Pallava dynasty<\/strong>, which had a strong influence on the region during the 9th century.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Subsequently<\/strong>, the <strong>Chola dynasty<\/strong> played a crucial role in <strong>further developing a<\/strong>nd <strong>patronizing the temple.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Later on, <strong>during<\/strong> the reign of the <strong>Vijayanagara Empire,<\/strong> the temple received <strong>significant contributions<\/strong> and endowments, solidifying its place in the religious landscape of South India.<\/li>\n<li>One of the defining moments in the temple\u2019s history was when the <strong>famous saint, Ramanuja<\/strong>, played a <strong>pivotal role in reviving the temple and its rituals in the 12th century.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>It is <strong>one of the richest temples<\/strong> in the world in terms of donations received and wealth.<\/li>\n<li>A <strong>popular practice<\/strong> in the temple <strong>is the donation of hair<\/strong> and various riches in order to please the god.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tirupati Laddu<\/strong>: The renowned sweet, Tirupati Laddu, <strong>given as a prasad<\/strong> at the temple, has the <strong>Geographical indication (GI) tag.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Architecture<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>The Temple is constructed in <strong>Dravidian architecture<\/strong> and is believed to be constructed over a period of time <strong>starting from 300 AD<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Three entrances lead to the sanctum sanctorum &#8211; the first is called Mahadwaram.<\/li>\n<li>A <strong>gopuram (gateway),<\/strong> measuring 50 ft, is placed <strong>infront of the entrance.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>There are two circumambulation (parikrama) paths.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>main shrine houses a gold-plated tower<\/strong> that is <strong>called Ananda Nilayam<\/strong>, and a temple inside the tower houses the main deity.<\/li>\n<li>The temple\u2019s vast courtyards, pillars, and halls are adorned with exquisite sculptures and designs that capture the essence of Hindu spirituality.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What is a Geographical indication (GI) tag?<\/h3>\n<p>It is a sign used on products that have a specific geographical origin and possess qualities or a reputation that are due to that origin. This is typically used for agricultural products, foodstuffs, wine and spirit drinks, handicrafts and industrial products. The Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, 1999 seeks to provide for the registration and better protection of geographical indications relating to goods in India.
