{"id":56185,"date":"2025-07-22T12:53:26","date_gmt":"2025-07-22T07:23:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=56185"},"modified":"2025-07-22T13:15:21","modified_gmt":"2025-07-22T07:45:21","slug":"cy-tb-test","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/cy-tb-test\/","title":{"rendered":"Cy-TB Test"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Cy-TB Test Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the Kerala health authorities have introduced a test called Cy-TB for detecting and treating tuberculosis (TB) infection following the prioritisation of latent TB infection treatment under the National TB Elimination Programme (NTEP).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Cy-TB Test<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>new intradermal test<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for detecting and treating <\/span><b>tuberculosis (TB) infection.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>third-generation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> test approved by the Central TB Division, Government of India.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the current recommendation for use of the Cy-tb skin test under the NTEP program for age 18 years and above.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>How does the Cy-TB Test Work?<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cy-TB is a <\/span><b>highly specific, accurate and user-friendly skin test<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, wherein 0.1 ml doses of <\/span><b>M. tuberculosis-specific antigens <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(ESAT-6 and CFP-10) are injected into the skin in the inner forearm.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An induration (a raised area) of 5 mm or more which develops on the <\/span><b>skin within 48-72 hours indicates TB infection.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>What is TB?<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">TB is caused <\/span><b>by bacteria (Mycobacterium tuberculosis<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) and it most often affects the lungs. TB is spread through the air when people with lung TB cough, sneeze or spit.
