were a <\/span><b>pre-Roman Mediterranean civilization<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that flourished between the<\/span><b> 8th and 3rd centuries BCE.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Etruscans<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, also known as the <\/span><b>Tyrrhenians<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>inhabited the area<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that is <\/span><b>now Italy.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Their <\/span><b>country <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">was called <\/span><b>Tuscia, or Etruria,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which was located in the <\/span><b>central part of the Italian peninsula.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Etruria was <\/span><b>bounded <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">on the <\/span><b>west justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They played a significant <\/span><b>role in the cultural and political development of early Rome.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They established a confederation of <\/span><b>twelve city-states.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This system of government was <\/span><b>highly decentralised<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with each city-state having its <\/span><b>own king and its own system of laws and governance.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Etruscan society was marked by a <\/span><b>high degree of leisure and luxury<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>evident in their art, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">elaborate <\/span><b>burial practices,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the <\/span><b>status of women<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, who <\/span><b>experienced more equality <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">compared to many contemporary cultures.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Etruscans were <\/span><b>skilled traders and builders<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, known for their <\/span><b>wealth derived from local metal deposits <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and fertile agricultural land.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Etruscans possessed the <\/span><b>biggest iron reserves<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the whole of the western Mediterranean.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They had a <\/span><b>strong navy<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and dominated the seas on
