{"id":5664,"date":"2022-12-12T12:32:23","date_gmt":"2022-12-12T07:02:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=5664"},"modified":"2025-03-27T10:11:39","modified_gmt":"2025-03-27T04:41:39","slug":"asean-consensus-on-myanmar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/asean-consensus-on-myanmar\/","title":{"rendered":"ASEAN Consensus on Myanmar"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>ASEAN\u2019s Five Points Consensus:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It states that there shall be an immediate cessation of violence in Myanmar.<\/li>\n<li>All parties shall exercise utmost restraint; constructive dialogue among all parties concerned shall commence to seek a peaceful solution in the interests of the people.<\/li>\n<li>A special envoy of the ASEAN Chair shall facilitate mediation of the dialogue process, with the assistance of the secretary-general of ASEAN.<\/li>\n<li>ASEAN shall provide humanitarian assistance through the AHA Centre (ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on disaster management).<\/li>\n<li>The special envoy and delegation shall visit Myanmar to meet with all parties concerned.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>What is ASEAN?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a group of \u00a0 Association of Southeast Asian Nations, which was established in 1967 with the signing of the <strong>Bangkok declaration.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Founding members<\/strong>: Indonesia, Malaysia,Philippines, Singapore and Thailand.<\/li>\n<li>Presently ASEAN comprises <strong>10 member states namely Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia and Vietnam.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It promotes intergovernmental cooperation and facilitates economic, political, security, military, educational, and sociocultural integration between its members and other countries in Asia.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1) What is the ASEAN Way?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>ASEAN countries have celebrated what has become known as the &#8216;ASEAN Way&#8217;, a form of interaction that is informal, non- confrontationist and cooperative.
