{"id":5740,"date":"2022-12-13T05:56:12","date_gmt":"2022-12-13T00:26:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=5740"},"modified":"2025-03-27T10:38:23","modified_gmt":"2025-03-27T05:08:23","slug":"sri-aurobindo-ghosh","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/sri-aurobindo-ghosh\/","title":{"rendered":"Sri Aurobindo Ghosh"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Sri Aurobindo Ghosh:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h3><strong>Early Life &amp; Career:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Born to surgeon Krishna Dhan Ghose and Swarnalata Devi in Calcutta on August 15, 1872.<\/li>\n<li>He passed the Indian Civil Service Examination in 1890 but failed in the horsemanship test due to which he could not enter the service.<\/li>\n<li>In 1893, he accepted an appointment in the Baroda state service.<\/li>\n<li>He worked for 13 years and rose to the post of principal of the Baroda State College.<\/li>\n<li>Later, he left his job at Baroda to join the <strong>Bengal National College.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Revolutionary Streak:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>He became a leading figure in the freedom movement and used to write fearless articles for the <strong>English newspaper Bande Mataram.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>He also contributed articles to the <strong>Bengali weekly Yugantar.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Later, he started the weekly English journal titled Dharma, in which he tried to convey the message of Swaraj or freedom from British rule.<\/li>\n<li>He was one of the founders of the <strong>youth club Anushilan Samiti<\/strong> which protested against the atrocities of the British government.<\/li>\n<li>He was one of the leading protesters against the 1905 Partition of Bengal and called on the citizens to boycott British institutions and goods.<\/li>\n<li>He took part in the 1906 session of the Indian National Congress and was a member of the team which set four objectives-Swadeshi, Swaraj, education and boycott.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Alipore Bomb Case<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Aurobindo, a revolutionary and a militant nationalist, was charged in the <strong>Alipore Bomb Case (1906-1910) <\/strong>and was sentenced to jail.<\/li>\n<li>He spent one year in solitary confinement at the Alipore Central Jail in Calcutta.<\/li>\n<li>Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das fought his case and Ghosh was released.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Spiritualism at Puducherry:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>He decided to give up active politics after his stint in jail and devoted himself to spiritualism.<\/li>\n<li>In 1910, he left British India and found refuge in the French colony of Pondich\u00e9ry (now called &#8216;Puducherry&#8217;) in southeastern India.<\/li>\n<li>He founded a community of spiritual seekers, which took shape as the <strong>Sri Aurobindo Ashram in 1926.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>He devoted himself for the rest of his life to the development of his <strong>\u201cintegral\u201d yoga.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>The main objective<\/strong> of his teachings was to increase the level of consciousness of people and to aware people of their true selves.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Work:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Aurobindo\u2019s voluminous literary work comprises philosophical speculation, many treatises on yoga and integral yoga, poetry, plays, and other writings.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>His major works include:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Essays on the Gita (1922),<\/li>\n<li>The Life Divine (1939)<\/li>\n<li>Collected Poems and Plays (1942),<\/li>\n<li>The Synthesis of Yoga (1948),<\/li>\n<li>The Human Cycle (1949),<\/li>\n<li>The Ideal of Human Unity (1949),<\/li>\n<li>Savitri: A Legend and a Symbol (1950),<\/li>\n<li>On the Veda (1956).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1) What is Integral Yoga?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Integral Yoga is a flexible combination of specific methods designed to develop every aspect of the individual: physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual.
