{"id":57655,"date":"2025-08-01T12:13:22","date_gmt":"2025-08-01T06:43:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=57655"},"modified":"2025-08-01T12:13:22","modified_gmt":"2025-08-01T06:43:22","slug":"ins-himgiri","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/ins-himgiri\/","title":{"rendered":"INS Himgiri"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>INS Himgiri<\/b> <b>Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, INS Himgiri (Yard 3022) was delivered to the Indian Navy at GRSE, Kolkata.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About INS Himgiri\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the <\/span><b>third ship of Nilgiri Class (Project 17A<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) and the first of the class built at Garden Reach Shipbuilders &amp; Engineers (GRSE),\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>reincarnation of the erstwhile INS Himgiri,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a Leander-class frigate,that was decommissioned on 06 May 2005 after 30 years of glorious service to the nation.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <\/span><b>designed by the Warship Design Bureau<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (WDB) and overseen by the Warship Overseeing Team (Kolkata).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Features of INS Himgiri\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">P17A ships are fitted with an <\/span><b>advanced weapon and sensor suite<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> compared to the P17 (Shivalik) class.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These ships are configured <\/span><b>with Combined Diesel or Gas (CODOG) propulsion plants<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, comprising a diesel engine and gas turbine, that drives a Controllable Pitch Propeller (CPP) on each shaft, and a state-of-the-art Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The weapon suite comprises <\/span><b>supersonic Surface-to-Surface missile system<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Medium-Range Surface to Air Missile system, <\/span><b>rapid-fire Close-in Weapon Systems.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has indigenous content of 75%, which has involved over 200 MSMEs at GRSE.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">P17A frigates reflect a generational leap in indigenous ship design, stealth, survivability, and combat capability.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Significance:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Delivery of Himgiri showcases the design, ship construction and engineering prowess of the nation, and reflects Indian Navy\u2019s unrelenting focus on Aatmanirbharta in both ship design and shipbuilding.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source:<\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pib.gov.in\/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=2150864\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PIB<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>INS Himgiri  is the third ship of Nilgiri Class (Project 17A) and the first of the class built at Garden Reach Shipbuilders &#038; Engineers (GRSE).
