{"id":58359,"date":"2025-08-06T12:19:42","date_gmt":"2025-08-06T06:49:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=58359"},"modified":"2025-08-06T13:17:29","modified_gmt":"2025-08-06T07:47:29","slug":"cloves-syndrome","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/cloves-syndrome\/","title":{"rendered":"CLOVES Syndrome"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>CLOVES Syndrome Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Researchers believe that CLOVES Syndrome is caused by mutations in a gene called PIK3CA and less than 200 cases are believed to have been reported worldwide.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About CLOVES Syndrome<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CLOVES Syndrome, in which the letters stand for: <\/span><b>Congenital; Lipomatous; Overgrowth; Vascular malformations ; Epidermal nevi <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and Spinal\/skeletal anomalies\/Scoliosis, is very rare condition.\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>rare genetic disorder.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Cause:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It is caused by mutations in a <\/span><b>gene called PIK3CA<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which makes one of the proteins in an enzyme called<\/span><b> PI3K<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, which is involved in many important functions in a cell.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mutations in the PIK3CA gene may cause the PI3K enzyme to become overactive, which may cause cancer cells to grow.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PIK3CA gene <\/span><b>mutations have been found in many types of cancer,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> including cancers of the breast, lung, ovary, stomach, brain, colon, and rectum.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CLOVES Syndrome is an overgrowth disorder, part of a larger group of similar disorders called <\/span><b>PIK3CA-related overgrowth spectrum or PROS.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The mutations in the PIK3CA gene are believed to occur spontaneously in the womb.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <\/span><b>not hereditary and cannot be passed on<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Symptoms of CLOVES Syndrome<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Growth of Soft masses of fatty tissue<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on the abdomen, back, sides and buttocks.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vascular or blood vessel anomalies such as dilated veins that may be seen in the chest, arms and legs and that may pose a risk of blood clots<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Large and wide hands or feet, with large gaps between fingers and toes; \u2018port wine stain\u2019 birthmarks;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Spinal problems<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> such as scoliosis or a tethered cord; kidney problems; skin abnormalities such as raised bumps,<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Treatment:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> There is no cure as yet for CLOVES syndrome.
