{"id":5868,"date":"2022-12-22T03:31:28","date_gmt":"2022-12-21T22:01:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=5868"},"modified":"2025-03-27T11:23:41","modified_gmt":"2025-03-27T05:53:41","slug":"what-is-samudrayaan-mission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-is-samudrayaan-mission\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Samudrayaan Mission?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About<\/strong> <strong>Samudrayaan Mission:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Samudrayaan Mission<\/strong> is aimed to <strong>develop a self-propelled manned submersible<\/strong> to carry three human beings to a <strong>water depth of 6,000 meters<\/strong> in the ocean with a suite of scientific sensors and tools for <strong>deep ocean exploration<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The experts will be sent in a manned submersible vehicle called <strong>&#8216;MATSYA 6000&#8217;.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>This vehicle is being designed and <strong>developed by the National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT), Chennai under the Ministry of Earth Sciences.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It has an endurance of 12 hours under normal operation and 96 hours in case of emergency for human safety.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Manned submersible<\/strong> provides a feel of <strong>direct physical presence for researchers<\/strong> and has better intervention capability.<\/li>\n<li>With the launch of &#8216;Samudrayaan&#8217; in October 2021,<strong> <u>India joined the elite club<\/u><\/strong> of nations such as the <strong>US, Russia, Japan, France, and China<\/strong> to have niche technology and vehicles to carry out subsea activities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Why is it relevant for India?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>India has a unique maritime position, a <strong>7517 km long coastline<\/strong>, which is home to <strong>nine coastal states and 1,382 islands<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The mission aims to boost the Central government&#8217;s vision of &#8216;New India&#8217; that <strong>highlights the Blue Economy as one of the ten core dimensions of growth.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>For India, with its <strong>three sides surrounded by the oceans <\/strong>and around 30% of the nation&#8217;s population living in coastal areas and coastal regions play a major economic factor.
