{"id":58751,"date":"2025-08-09T14:17:06","date_gmt":"2025-08-09T08:47:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=58751"},"modified":"2025-08-09T14:17:06","modified_gmt":"2025-08-09T08:47:06","slug":"bharat-forecast-system","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/bharat-forecast-system\/","title":{"rendered":"Bharat Forecast System"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Bharat Forecast System Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology, Earth Sciences informed the Rajya Sabha about the Bharat Forecast System.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Bharat Forecast System<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is an indigenously built <\/span><b>advanced weather forecasting system.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is based on the newly implemented <\/span><b>Triangular Cubic Octahedral<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (TCo) dynamical grid that enables the <\/span><b>model to operate at 6 km horizontal resolution<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, surpassing its predecessor (GFS T1534 ~ 12km) and typical global operational models having horizontal resolution of 9\u201314\u202fkm.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Supercomputing facilities Arka<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (IITM-Pune) and <\/span><b>Arunika<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (NCMRWF-Noida), enabled the model to be used for real-time weather prediction.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The BharatFS was developed with the objective of <\/span><b>generating forecasts at the cluster of panchayats level<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and improving the prediction of extremes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0In research mode, it has demonstrated significant improvement in the rainfall forecast over the core monsoon region and 30% better accuracy for the extreme rainfall forecast compared to the previous operational model.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With the increase in horizontal resolution, the BharatFS is <\/span><b>capable of generating<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> distinct <\/span><b>forecasts every 6\u202fkm.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has demonstrated significant improvement in the <\/span><b>skill of predicting the core monsoon region rainfall,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with a 30% improvement in the accuracy for the forecasting of extreme rainfall events.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The BharatFS was developed by a team of scientists from Indian institutions like IITM-Pune, with support from the NCMRWF-Noida and the India Meteorological Department (IMD).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The development and launch of BharatFS has enabled India to upgrade its meteorological services and support neighboring countries, reinforcing regional leadership and self-reliance.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Significance:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> This allows the <\/span><b>capturing of local weather features,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> thus enabling the forecasts to cater to a cluster of panchayats\/villages.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Localized forecasts help <\/span><b>farmers with crop planning, irrigation, and harvesting<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
