{"id":58754,"date":"2025-08-09T14:15:44","date_gmt":"2025-08-09T08:45:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=58754"},"modified":"2025-08-11T16:06:27","modified_gmt":"2025-08-11T10:36:27","slug":"merite-scheme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/merite-scheme\/","title":{"rendered":"MERITE Scheme"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>MERITE Scheme Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the Union Cabinet has approved the proposal for implementation of the \u2018Multidisciplinary Education and Research Improvement in Technical Education\u2019 (MERITE) Scheme.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About MERITE Scheme<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <\/span><b>a \u2018Central Sector Scheme\u2019<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which will be implemented in <\/span><b>government engineering institutions and Polytechnics<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in all States\/ UTs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This scheme has been formulated in <\/span><b>collaboration with the World Bank.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Objective:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> To improve the <\/span><b>quality, equity and governance in technical education<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> covering all States\/UTs by implementing interventions aligned with the National Educational Policy-2020 (NEP-2020).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Funding:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Total financial <\/span><b>implication of Rs.4200 crore<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for a period from <\/span><b>2025-26 to 2029-30.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Out of Rs.4200 crore, there will be an <\/span><b>external assistance<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of Rs.2100 crore from <\/span><b>World Bank as loan.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It will have <\/span><b>the facility of funds transfer from the Central Government<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to participating entities <\/span><b>through a Central Nodal Agency.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Eminent educational institutions like the IITs and IIMs and regulatory bodies in the higher education sector such as the AICTE, NBA etc. will also play a significant role in the scheme implementation.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The initiative emphasizes <\/span><b>enhancing students&#8217; skills to improve their employability<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> through a comprehensive, multi-faceted approach.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Key interventions include offering <\/span><b>internship opportunities, updating curricula<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to align with industry requirements, organizing faculty development programs, and setting up research hubs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Additionally, support will be <\/span><b>provided to incubation and innovation centers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, skill and maker labs, and language workshops.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Benefits of MERITE Scheme<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An estimated 275 Government\/ Government-aided technical institutions are expected to be selected and supported under the scheme.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This will include selected <strong>National Institutes of Technology<\/strong> (NITs), State Engineering Institutions, Polytechnics and Affiliating Technical Universities (ATUs).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Apart from this, the State\/ UT departments handling the technical education sector will also be supported through the MERITE scheme.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source:<\/b> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pib.gov.in\/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=2154119\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PIB<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MERITE Scheme is a \u2018Central Sector Scheme\u2019 which will be implemented in government engineering institutions and Polytechnics in all States\/ UTs.
