{"id":58850,"date":"2026-02-23T12:00:22","date_gmt":"2026-02-23T06:30:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=58850"},"modified":"2026-02-23T12:20:42","modified_gmt":"2026-02-23T06:50:42","slug":"national-organ-and-tissue-transplant-organization-notto","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/national-organ-and-tissue-transplant-organization-notto\/","title":{"rendered":"National Organ And Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India has achieved a significant milestone in the field of organ donation and transplantation, with the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO) recording unprecedented progress in organ donation, allocation, and transplantation across the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a national-level organization set up under the <\/span><b>Directorate General of Health Services,<\/b> <b>Ministry of Health and Family Welfare<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in New Delhi.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The establishment of NOTTO is mandated as per the <\/span><b>Transplantation of human Organs and Tissues (Amendment) Act of 2011.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has the <\/span><b>following two divisions:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">National Human Organ and Tissue Removal and Storage Network<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">National Biomaterial Centre<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It functions as the apex centre for all India activities of coordination and networking for:<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">procurement and distribution of organs and tissues; and\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">registry of Organs and Tissues Donation and Transplantation in the country<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The following activities are undertaken at National Level by NOTTO to facilitate Organ Transplantation in the safest way in the shortest possible time and to collect data and develop and publish National Registry.<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Lay down policy guidelines<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and protocols for various functions.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">All registry data from States and regions would be compiled and published.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Creating awareness and promotion of deceased organ donation and transplantation activities.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Co-ordination from procurement<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of organs and tissues to transplantation when organs are allocated outside the region.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Dissemination of information<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to all concerned organizations, hospitals, and individuals.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Monitoring of transplantation activities<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the regions and States and maintaining a data-bank in this regard.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>To assist the states in data management,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> organ transplant surveillance &amp;
