{"id":58984,"date":"2025-08-11T14:28:02","date_gmt":"2025-08-11T08:58:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=58984"},"modified":"2025-08-11T14:29:15","modified_gmt":"2025-08-11T08:59:15","slug":"national-medical-register","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/national-medical-register\/","title":{"rendered":"National Medical Register"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>National Medical Register Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare informed the Lok Sabha that application for issuance of an National Medical Register (NMR) Identification (ID) is voluntary.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About National Medical Register<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>centralised database of registered medical practitioners<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in modern medicine, maintained by the National Medical Commission (NMC).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was launched in August 2024 under <\/span><b>Section 31 of the NMC Act, 2019,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the register was introduced as a mandatory exercise for all registered medical practitioners.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It aims <\/span><b>to eliminate duplication<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and enable the public to access information on any doctor working in India.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It contains information on each <\/span><b>practitioner, including qualification, area of specialisation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (in process), <\/span><b>registration status<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and date of registration, and assigns a <\/span><b>unique identification number called the NMR ID.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each doctor\u2019s <\/span><b>record is linked to their Aadhaar ID<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for verification, with some data made public while sensitive information is restricted to specified individuals and institutions.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>State Medical Councils<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (SMCs) are <\/span><b>responsible for verifying degrees<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and facilitating the process, with the portal dynamically updated for transparency and governance.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Upon successful verification by the State Medical Council, the application is sent to the National Medical Commission.
