{"id":5904,"date":"2025-09-02T11:27:05","date_gmt":"2025-09-02T05:57:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=5904"},"modified":"2025-09-02T12:17:35","modified_gmt":"2025-09-02T06:47:35","slug":"what-is-orcas","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-is-orcas\/","title":{"rendered":"Killer whales"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Killer whales Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A new study has found that killer whales may be exploring human behaviour by offering them whole prey and waiting for them to respond.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Killer whales<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <\/span><b>also known as Orcas<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which is found <\/span><b>across the world and it <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is the ocean\u2019s top predator.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the <\/span><b>largest member of the Delphinidae family<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, or dolphins and are the most widely distributed of all cetaceans.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Members of this family include all <\/span><b>dolphin species<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, as well as other larger species, such as <\/span><b>long-finned pilot whales<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>short-finned pilot whales<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, whose common names also contain \u201cwhale\u201d instead of \u201cdolphin\u201d.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Behavior:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Killer whales are <\/span><b>highly social,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and most live in <\/span><b>social groups called pods<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (groups of maternally related individuals seen together more than half the time).<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Killer whales rely on <\/span><b>underwater sound to feed,<\/b> <b>communicate, and navigate.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Appearance:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> They are one of the most recognizable marine mammals, with their distinctive black and white bodies.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><b>Habitat:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Globally, killer whales occur in a wide range of habitats, in <\/span><b>both open seas and coastal waters.<\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Threats: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Killer whales are at high risk of becoming entangled in fishing gear.
