{"id":59269,"date":"2025-08-13T12:22:50","date_gmt":"2025-08-13T06:52:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=59269"},"modified":"2025-08-13T17:25:00","modified_gmt":"2025-08-13T11:55:00","slug":"undp-equator-initiative-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/undp-equator-initiative-award\/","title":{"rendered":"UNDP Equator Initiative Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 dir=\"ltr\"><strong>UNDP Equator Initiative Award Latest News<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Recently, a self-help group (SHG) from a small village in Kundgol taluk of Dharwad district, Karnataka has bagged the \u2018Equator Initiative Award\u2019 given by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).<\/p>\n<h2 dir=\"ltr\"><strong>About UNDP Equator Initiative Award<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;\">\n<li dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">It is presented under the <strong>Equator Initiative of the United Nations Development Programme.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">It is awarded biennially to recognize outstanding community efforts to reduce poverty through the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">It is also referred to as the <strong>Nobel Prize for Biodiversity Conservation.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\"><strong>Prize money:<\/strong> The award includes a cash prize of $10,000.<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">This year\u2019s award selection was based on the theme <strong>Women and Youth Leadership for Nature-Based Climate Action\u201d<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\" aria-level=\"1\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\"><strong>Eligibility Criteria<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul style=\"list-style-type: circle;\">\n<li dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">The initiative <strong>must have been in existence for at least three years<\/strong>, and\/or the actions taken must have been in place for at least three years.<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">The <strong>nominee must be either a local community-based group<\/strong>, operating in a rural area, based in a country receiving support from the United Nations Development Programme or an Indigenous Peoples\u2019 community in any country, operating in a rural area.<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">The actions taken must be nature-based, and must deliver benefits related to two or more Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Source:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/national\/karnataka\/undp-equator-initiative-award-for-bibi-fatima-shg-of-teertha-village\/article69913654.ece#:~:text\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">TH<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The UNDP Equator Initiative Award is presented under the Equator Initiative of the United Nations Development Programme.
