text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a highly<\/span><b> contagious viral infection <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">best known by its <\/span><b>distinctive red rash<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It&#8217;s also called <\/span><b>German measles or three-day measles.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rubella <\/span><b>isn&#8217;t the same as measles<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but the two illnesses <\/span><b>share some signs <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and symptoms, <\/span><b>such as the red rash.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Rubella <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is <\/span><b>caused by a different virus than measle<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">s, and rubella <\/span><b>isn&#8217;t as infectious or as severe as measles.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rubella is<\/span><b> caused by the Rubella virus,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> an enveloped, single-stranded RNA virus, different from the measles virus.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Rubella <\/b><b>Transmission<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Rubella virus spreads from <\/span><b>person to person<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> when you <\/span><b>cough, sneeze, or touch surfaces with the virus<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on them.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It can also spread from a <\/span><b>pregnant woman to the fetus.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You<\/span><b> can be contagious <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with rubella<\/span><b> without symptoms.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Rubella <\/b><b>Symptoms<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This infection may cause mild or <\/span><b>no symptoms in most people.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>main symptom<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of rubella is a <\/span><b>spotty rash<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that starts on the face or behind the ears and spreads to the neck and body.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The rash takes<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2 to 3 weeks to appear after getting rubella.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rubella can cause<\/span><b> serious problems for unborn babies whose mothers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> become <\/span><b>infected during pregnancy.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>When a woman<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is <\/span><b>infected with the rubella virus early in pregnancy,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> she has a <\/span><b>90% chance of passing the virus <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">on to her fetus.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This <\/span><b>can cause the death of the fetus<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, or it<\/span><b> may cause Congenital Rubella Syndrome (CRS). <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Infants with CRS may excrete the virus for a year or more.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Children with CRS <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">can suffer <\/span><b>hearing impairments, eye and heart defects,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and other lifelong disabilities, including <\/span><b>autism, diabetes mellitus, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and thyroid dysfunction.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Rubella <\/b><b>Prevention<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is safe and highly effective in preventing rubella.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The vaccine <\/span><b>provides lifelong protection <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">against rubella.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Rubella <\/b><b>Treatment<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are <\/span><b>currently no medications<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> available to treat rubella. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;
