{"id":60361,"date":"2026-04-12T14:15:14","date_gmt":"2026-04-12T08:45:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=60361"},"modified":"2026-04-12T16:26:34","modified_gmt":"2026-04-12T10:56:34","slug":"kalai-ii-hydroelectric-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/kalai-ii-hydroelectric-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Kalai-II Hydroelectric Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Kalai-II Hydroelectric Project Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs recently approved an investment of \u20b914,105.83 crore for the construction of the Kalai-II Hydro Electric Project on the Lohit River in Anjaw District. <\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Kalai-II Hydroelectric Project<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>hydropower project<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> planned on the <\/span><b>Lohit River<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (a <\/span><b>tributary of the Brahmaputra <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">River) in the Anjaw District of <\/span><b>Arunachal Pradesh.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a<\/span><b> run-of-river with pondage project.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project involves construction of a <\/span><b>concrete gravity dam, upstream &amp; downstream coffer dam<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, diversion tunnel, intake tunnel, pressure Shafts, <\/span><b>underground Powerhouse <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">complex, surge chamber, and Tail Race Tunnel, etc.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project has an installed capacity of <\/span><b>1,200 megawatt (MW) <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">comprising six units of 190 MW and one unit of 60 MW.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is projected to generate 4,852.95 million units annually..<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project will be <\/span><b>implemented <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">through a <\/span><b>joint venture company between THDC India Limited<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (formerly Tehri Hydro Development Corporation Limited) and the <\/span><b>government of Arunachal Pradesh.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>Government of India will provide<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Rs 5.99 billion as <\/span><b>budgetary support<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for roads, bridges and associated transmission infrastructure, <\/span><b>along with central financial assistance <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of Rs 7.5 billion <\/span><b>towards the state\u2019s equity share. <\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: <\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/northeasttoday.in\/northeast\/arunachal-pradesh\/cabinet-approves-%E2%82%B914105-83-crore-for-1200-mw-kalai-ii-hydro-electric-project-in-arunachal-pradesh\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">NE<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kalai-II is a hydropower project proposed on the Lohit River in Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh, a tributary of the Brahmaputra.
