{"id":6060,"date":"2022-12-19T06:14:55","date_gmt":"2022-12-19T00:44:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=6060"},"modified":"2025-03-27T12:33:06","modified_gmt":"2025-03-27T07:03:06","slug":"water-worlds-218-light-years-away-detected","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/water-worlds-218-light-years-away-detected\/","title":{"rendered":"Water Worlds 218 light years away detected"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>Why in the News?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Two alien planets about 218 light years away from Earth have found a twin in the ocean worlds of Europa and Enceladus- moons orbiting Jupiter and Saturn.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Key findings<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The exoplanets, <strong>Kepler-138 c<\/strong> and <strong>Kepler-138 d,<\/strong> are likely water worlds, a feature that scientists have theorised for a long time.<\/li>\n<li>These twin planets of the same size and mass are more massive than Earth but lighter than ice giants Uranus and Neptune.<\/li>\n<li>They are different from the planets in our solar system, which is chiefly composed of rocky planets like Earth and gas giants like Jupiter.<\/li>\n<li>The Kepler- 138 c and d are made up of ingredients lighter than rock (rocky planets like Earth) but heavier than hydrogen or helium (gas-giant planets like Jupiter).<\/li>\n<li>The new planet takes <strong>38 days to complete an orbit.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is in the habitable zone, meaning it is located in an orbit that receives just the right amount of heat from its star to allow water to exist in a liquid form.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What are exoplanets?<\/h3>\n<p>Exoplanets are planets that orbit a star other than the sun.These worlds are far outside our own solar system.
