{"id":60619,"date":"2025-08-25T13:02:29","date_gmt":"2025-08-25T07:32:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=60619"},"modified":"2025-08-25T17:21:55","modified_gmt":"2025-08-25T11:51:55","slug":"integrated-food-security-phase-classification","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/integrated-food-security-phase-classification\/","title":{"rendered":"Integrated Food Security Phase Classification"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Integrated Food Security Phase Classification Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to a new Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) analysis more than half a million people in Gaza are trapped in famine, marked by widespread starvation, destitution and preventable deaths.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Integrated Food Security Phase Classification<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <\/span><b>an independent body funded by Western countries<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and widely recognised as the main global system for measuring the <\/span><b>severity of hunger crises.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was set up to sound the alarm so that famine and mass starvation could be prevented and to help organisations respond.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The IPC is <\/span><b>overseen by 19 major humanitarian organisations<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and regional bodies. It typically partners with national governments to analyse data.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is an <\/span><b>innovative multi-stakeholder global initiative<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> aimed at enhancing food security and nutrition analysis to inform decisions.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><b>How is Famine Determined?<\/b><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The IPC system charts acute food <\/span><b>insecurity on a five-phase scale.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Its most extreme warning is Phase 5, which has two levels, catastrophe and famine.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If the IPC or one of its partners finds that at <\/span><b>least one area is in famine<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a famine review committee, led by up to six experts, is activated.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For an area to be classified as in famine, at <\/span><b>least 20% of people must be suffering extreme food shortages,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with one in <\/span><b>three children acutely malnourished<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>two people<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> out of every <\/span><b>10,000 dying daily<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from starvation or malnutrition and disease.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The IPC says <\/span><b>it does not formally declare famine<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but provides analysis for governments and others to do so.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The IPC relies on the <\/span><b>U.N.
