second of the four \u2018<strong>Visakhapatnam\u2019 class destroyers,<\/strong> indigenously designed by the Indian Navy\u2019s in-house organization Warship Design Bureau and constructed by <strong>Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL),<\/strong> Mumbai<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Features:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>INS Mormugao is equipped with Anti-Submarine Warfare capabilities which are provided by indigenously-developed Rocket Launchers, Torpedo Launchers, and ASW helicopters.<\/li>\n<li>The ship is equipped to fight under <strong>Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical warfare<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The ship&#8217;s firepower consists of vertically launched <strong>Barak-8 surface-to-air missiles and BrahMos surface-to-surface cruise <\/strong>missiles for long-range engagement of shore- and sea-based targets.<\/li>\n<li>The Visakhapatnam class destroyers have multiple fire zones, battle damage control systems, and distributional power systems for improved survivability and reliability in extreme operational and conflict scenarios.<\/li>\n<li>They have a <strong>total atmospheric control system (TACS)<\/strong> that offers protection to the crew from chemical, biological, and nuclear threats, as well as a state-of-the-art combat management system that can evaluate threats using analytical tools and create a tactical picture that includes available resources on board.<\/li>\n<li>The warships have a secure network for data from its sensors and weapons systems.<\/li>\n<li>The destroyer will also be armed with indigenously developed 533 mm torpedo launchers and RBU-6000 anti-submarine rocket launchers.<\/li>\n<li>It can operate two multi-role helicopters \u2014 <strong>Sea King or HAL Dhruv.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The ship also has rail-less helicopter traversing, and a hangar facility.<\/li>\n<li>The propulsion system allows the ship to reach a maximum speed of 30 knots (55 km\/h), and a maximum range of 4,000 nautical miles (7,400 km).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>India\u2019s journey of the Destroyer Construction Programme:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>India\u2019s indigenous Destroyer construction programme started<strong> in the 1990s with the three Delhi class (P-15 class) warships<\/strong>, namely INS Delhi, INS Mysore, and INS Mumbai and this was <strong>followed by three Kolkata class (P-15A) destroyers<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Three guided missile destroyers of the Kolkata class \u2014 INS Kolkata, INS Kochi, and INS Chennai \u2014 under the project codenamed 15A.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Presently, under the <strong>P-15B (Visakhapatnam Class)<\/strong>, a total of four warships (<strong>Visakhapatnam, Mormugao, Imphal, Surat)<\/strong> were planned and Visakhapatnam and Mormugao are already
