text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Within the <\/span><b>Paris Agreement<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a section called <\/span><b>Article 6 defines the contours under which <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">such an <\/span><b>emissions trading regime <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">or a market <\/span><b>can take shape.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A long-standing bone of contention among countries, <\/span><b>Article 6 was finally passed<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at the 29<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">th<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> edition of the climate Conference of the Parties <\/span><b>(COP29) in Baku, Azerbaijan, in November 2024.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>creation of an NDA<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a<\/span><b> mandatory requirement under Article 6.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NDA will be a <\/span><b>21-member committee headed by<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the <\/span><b>Secretary of the Environment Ministry.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Representatives <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">include <\/span><b>officials from the Ministries of External Affairs, Steel, and Renewable Energy, and NITI Aayog.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The NDA\u2019s <\/span><b>responsibilities include\u00a0<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>recommending <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to the Union government a <\/span><b>list of activities that can be considered for the trading of emission reduction units<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from projects under Article 6;<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>modifying them from time to time <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in line with national sustainable goals, country-specific criteria, and other national priorities;\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>receive projects <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">or activities <\/span><b>for evaluation, approval, and authorisation;\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>authorise the use of emission reduction units <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">from projects<\/span><b> for use towards achievement of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC).<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400; text-align: justify;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>NDC<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> refers to <\/span><b>commitments by countries to reduce emissions<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by diverting their energy consumption towards renewable energy sources and taking action to reduce carbon concentrations in the atmosphere.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;
