{"id":61339,"date":"2025-08-30T13:13:05","date_gmt":"2025-08-30T07:43:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=61339"},"modified":"2025-08-30T16:32:36","modified_gmt":"2025-08-30T11:02:36","slug":"national-disaster-management-authority-ndma","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/national-disaster-management-authority-ndma\/","title":{"rendered":"National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Latest News<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 29, 2025, nominated two people as new members of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and re-nominated three existing members for three years.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>About National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA)<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Establishment: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The NDMA, established under the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/disaster-management-in-india\/\" target=\"_blank\">Disaster Management Act, 2005<\/a><\/strong>, is the country&#8217;s apex body for disaster management and is chaired ex officio by the Prime Minister of India.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Objectives: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NDMA is responsible for laying down the national policies, plans, and guidelines for disaster management, coordinating and enforcing implementation of these policies, and approving plans developed by ministries, states, and other agencies to ensure integrated responses to disasters.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Vision: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NDMA&#8217;s vision is to build a safer and disaster-resilient India through proactive, technology-driven, and sustainable strategies involving all stakeholders.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>NDMA Organisation Structure<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Composition: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The NDMA is chaired by the Prime Minister of India, assisted by a Vice-Chairperson (Cabinet Minister rank) and up to eight Members (Minister of State rank).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Divisions:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> It operates through specialized divisions, including Policy &amp; Plans, Mitigation, Operations, Communications &amp; IT, Administration, and Finance.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Institutional Mechanism:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> At the state and district levels, State Disaster Management Authorities (SDMAs) and District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) function under NDMA\u2019s overall framework and guidelines.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>NDMA Functions and Responsibilities<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">NDMA, as the apex body, is mandated to lay down the policies, plans and guidelines for Disaster Management to ensure timely and effective response to disasters.
